Default U21 Management in FM08

Hi All
I've come and gone into LLManagement over the years, and have just noticed that in FM08 (not sure if this was available from the start in previous versions) that you could take over a national Under21/Under19 side from the start of the game..
Just wanted to see what opinion you guys had on doing this. I can see how it goes against LLM a bit...No financial struggle etc, however I think the main thing with LLM is to make the game realistic (ie. a new manager isn't going to take over a Liverpool or a Man Utd) and I think that in most nations this goal is achieved if you take over one of the Junior National sides...

What does everyone think? I'm sure there will be loads that slam the idea, just thought Id run it by everyone

It has nothing to do with LLM at all.

If you're offered one of those jobs after you've gained experience, fine. At the beginning of the save, however, it's got nothing to do with LLM.

I'll save you the trouble of having to look up what LLM is:

Quote:
Choosing the Team’s easy enough. Look for any Nation with more than one Division. Look at the Clubs in the Lowest Division. Choose one of these Clubs.

By definition, Lower League management can only involve Teams with more than one Division, but it’s been a sort of unwritten rule in the LLM community that playing a Club from a Nation with only one Division will be tolerated in the LLM Forum.
I'm sure you can see the reason.

Yes, I understand what LLM is...I have done it before, and followed the strict rules.

However, there is people that follow rules blindly, and people that like to have reasons for doing what they do.

My understanding for LLM is to make the game more realistic...Start at the bottom, as a real manager would (esp. as we can't be a coach or anything in a 'management' game).

So yes, I can see the reason that it isn't within your static LLM rules, however I can also see a big reason why lots of people that are into LLM would also find this concept interesting. Esp. if you take over a smaller nations U19s/20s/21s.

"I'm sure there will be loads that slam the idea"..

I'm not saying this IS LLM. I'm saying it has a similar feel as far as making the game feel realistic, and making the manager work there way up from the bottom.

Again, basically ths is for pepole who don't just follow rules blindly, but have reasons for doing things like LLM. Ie. They think it makes it more realistic, and enjoy the challenge. Not just "I want to fit into a sub community so need to follow all of the rules exactly"

Just how is getting appointed the manager of a national under 21 or under 19 team realistic? LLM bends the realism rules a little in that even a conference north/south team would be hardly likely to hire a total unknown as a manager, but a national association is even LESS likely to do so.

It's not blindly following rules, though. As the dead man says, it's not realistic, and we strive for realism, as much as the game allows. How many managers start out as managers for youth sides without managing elsewhere first? Former internationals, and that's it. Pretty sure you're not one of those.

I won't lie, the concept of managing youth sides is intriguing, but I'll earn the spot, not just decide I'm of international quality from the off. If you want this to be a suggestion for people who don't necessarily want to follow our rules (though I suspect you mean guidelines, in which case you miss the point of the term guidelines), why did you post it in here?

Yup. I don't see it being realistic or LLMesque either.

However, it's your game so do as you please

I think the only way you could start a game as head coach for a national U-19 & remain realistic is if you are an ex-professional (preferably ex-international) footballer.

As small caveat however, even though it would be within the guidelines of LLM in terms of realism it's not exactly playing within the spirit of those guidelines.
