Frank sent me off to Pontevedra - in Spain's 2nd B1, a small yet professional outfit.
05/06 Spanish Second Division B1
The board wanted promotion, since the team had just been relegated. Instead, my squad decided to choke in the promotional playoffs. My scouts were able to find me some decent players in Spain, however by the time scouting reports started trickling in, it was too late. Plus,
unleashing the scouts tends to bleed the coffers. Fortunately I was able to sell an overated MC and buy lots of cheap legs (out -3; in -9).
2nd 38(26-6-6) 84pts.
This first season was nice and smooth, somewhat consistent play, and we even made it to the 4th round of the cup (!) losing 0-1 to Getafe.
Regional musings: I don't understand how some teams do have a B-team and others don't. Pontevedra doesn't, so there was a ton of rotation going on but it is good to have the 25-man constraint on teams...

Remember when you talked to your grandfather and he used to space out when recalling "that season back in '56... it was wonderful, unheard of". I thought there was a major bug with my game:
1rst 38(34-2-2) 104pts (only 13 goals against!). THIS was positive aquaplaning.
Halfway through the season, I was in true shock, even posted here if people had heard of such
bugs. However, the season after would bring me back to earth... (I think it was kev that foreshadowed the event).
Spanish Cup: exactly the opposite success to the league, lost in the preliminary round; lost to Alcoron 4-1.
07/08 Spanish Second Division.
10th 42(15-11-16) 56pts.
The previous season had 11 new faces, with a departing 8. Still keeping the squad somewhat
balanced. But the team was consistently mediocre. won a game, lost the next. The high spirits from the previous season deflated completely, and I kept looking for a new team, while still thinking, I need to keep challenging. I thought we would make the top six, and then a massive losing streak hit.
Spanish Cup: we cruised past big teams like Tenerife, only to lose 4-2 to minnows Ecija in
extra time 4-2. Ugly. Remember '06??? Those were the days

I decided to stay, having brought 4 good players, including an amazing 18yr old ST and a DM and scraping six, the team was very similar to the previous season, and I was once again hopeful.
The board just wanted us to stay mid table; I wanted more. We started reasonably well, but I
could sense money troubles ahead. when an offer came from Dnipro (Ukrane) late in october, I
took it..
08/09 Ukranian High League - Dnipro
Top 5 reasons for taking the job:
5) Team was rich (20M for funding players)
4) Team was sitting 14th (out of 15 teams) and the league allows for 12 foreigners.
3) Team had a very crappy squad, of the 16 players in the senior team, 2 were under 17yrs.
2) Board wanted a "respectable" position (e.g. within top 4).
1) Stadium name: Meteor. Need say more?
Regional Musings: Ukranian High League is tough! players are underrated, however they ask for massive wages. Is it the cold? Also, there is a four-month winter break!! players just grow fat.
So, having had money troubles, I just went nuts. Sent a scout to Argentina and recruited 9 Argentinians and 1 colombian that was playing there. their value halved once they arrived, but they could play...
Before mid season, we were still sitting at 14th. When the new kids arrived, oh it was sweet. But still inconsistent. We beat Dinamo Kiev 5-0, only to tie next game 0-0 against the last team in the pack. cup wise? who knows, we were out before I arrived.
Board is much more temperamental, and were not very happy that we ended 6th (most of the points
came in the second half). they want European competition next season... Pontevedra is now in the spanish First Division.

First full season with Dnipro, where 7 new players came in including a magician striker from Arsenal Kiev (top scorer with 11 tickmarks in only half a season) and a cool-headed winger from Dinamo Moscow halfway through the season. Out went 27 players - mostly from Dnipro-3.
Got into the Eurocup by way of winning the Ukranian cup (!).
Board was very temperamental in a season where we consolidated the rivalry with Dinamo Kiev. We kept losing or tying in matches with bad teams. not good.
No summer break since we start with the Euro cup qualifying rounds...

Second full season at Dnipro witnessed an attempt to balance the squad with domestic players - tougher done than said since the Ukranian "old firm" are very greedy. Managed to get an excellent argentinian DL and a Ukranian 17yr old AMC prodigy. Released about 30 kids from the academy, still don't know how they manage to pour in... Finances have been somewhat stabilized and we are in the black.
Ukranian Cup - lost in the Semis to Shakhtar
UEFA Cup - weaseled through to the Second knockout round, only to lose to Standard (BEL).

This season was a keystone for two reasons: (1) we managed to win the leage for the first time, despite Shakhtar pushing behind (2) began the tyrant rulership as a manager. The squad was being ran like a pirate ship... The magician striker of yore was sold - on a whim - for 4M (and now he is a rockstar in some lousy Italian team). My solid AML also departed - whim #2. On the plus side, got an amazing ST for 7k who is now worth 4M, my attack was more consistent, and the squad has more depth and still with black numbers... Which is good because the board restructured the finances and I only had 1M in the war chest, why why why?
Ukranian Cup - Winners, again!! I think I enjoy cups for some reason.
Champions League - Managed to get into the group stages, ended 3rd aquaplaned to the EURO Cup First knockout round and lost to Southhampton.

Dnipro FC(?) has finally transformed into a Pirate ship... four key players are disgrunted, trying to off load them is not easy, since they want wages over 15k p/w. Never seen ALL of the players condemn the manager in unison before. I start looking for other teams, however, not even lowest division semi-pro's will take me...
