but what are plug-ins ??

ive seen them mentioned alot but what exactly are they. excuse me for asking what may seem like a silly thing. but if anyone could explain the to me i would be very grateful x

They are add-ins for the program. They give extra functionality to Photoshop. The most obvious ones are the filters in the filters menu. Those are all plugins. You can get third party plugins that would add functions to that menu or others.

Basically just think of them as little chunks of the program that each give a specific piece of functionality.

The plug-ins are stored in the plug-ins folder inside your Photoshop folder, which can be important to know if you have any problems or if you have to install a new plug-in.
