Ok, I know everyone is all about 08 at the moment, but I'm still having a blast playing 07 and would appreciate an explanation for something I don't understand:
My team, Ancona, in the Italian league finished in 5th place in the Serie B. I played the playoff semifinal and won on aggregate and advanced to the playoff final. Here I played against the 6th place league finisher Messina. The aggregate after 2 games was 3-3 each having the same 2-1 home victory. Now Messina advanced and I got an email stating: "Ancona have lost in the Italian Serie B Playoff Final as the lower seeded team after a 3-3 aggregate draw with Messina."
My question is how was Ancona the lower seeded team given the fact that I finished the league ahead of Messina by 3 pts and my goal differential, if it matters, was 9 higher?
In addition, when we faced off during the season, I won the home game and tied the away one.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Tim
(getting tired of losing in playoffs in the Serie B 3x now!)

Not sure. Maybe Messina played the higher team in the higher seeded semi final. eg. 3rd plays 6th in higher seed semi, 4th plays 5th in lower seeded semi. So after beating 3rd, Messina progressed as the higher seeded team

Hmm... it's an interesting idea, chuzcredit, but upon looking at the first semi-final, Messina did the same thing it appears. They advanced past Torino (the 3rd place finisher) even though the aggregate was 5-5 with each team having the same 3-2 home victory.
It doesn't seem right to me. I should have played Torino then in the final. I smell another Italian football scandal...
The really sad part is that in the second leg of my playoff final, I had two goals called back for offside... Scandalous! Those players have since been transfered and I'm sure the hardcore fans "thanked" the linesman
