Default Which resolution to use with a 19" monitor

I do the same but with 21", I find in 1280x1024 normal mode there is a band across the screen (like playing in a widescreen movie) dunno why, the xbox only does this with BF2MC and FM2006, annoying, if you go to the Xbox settings menu and change the disply to widescreen, it fills it out and utilises the whole screen.
(slightly deforming some images but no big deal)

My question is this, can it be sorted? why cant the game auto detect and go full screen instead of me having to tweak settings to make do!
