Just an observation. I've got Harrogate promoted from BSN to BSP in my first season in charge (after a successful stint at Telford, although not successful enough to get a contract renewal) and my rep is "Local".

After the play-offs, but before the end of the season, I get a newspaper report saying that I'm being linked, among others, to Exeter as they probably won't renew the current guys contract. Since when was Exeter local to Harrogate?

My question... what does the managers rep do at lower levels, if anything?

I know, I'm a nit-picker, but you have to have a hobby...

it mostly has to do with what club will consider you for the position (depending on the club's reputation & yours + nationality).
It also affects player's desire to play for your team

But does it though? And if so, exactly how much of an effect does your reputation have on whether a player will decide to play for you?

I've been wondering this recently while playing as Gateshead. If I overperform as manager and increase my reputation will this have an effect on the number and quality of players willing to sign for my club? Or is it based solely on the reputation of the club itself?

I feel currently it's the latter and club reputation is by far the most important factor with regards to what players you can attract in the game. There could be some room for improvement here though. Perhaps as the managers reputation grows more players should be interested in playing for him, based solely on his reputation, regardless of the club (within reason).

A good real life example of this is when Roy Keane took over at Sunderland. Before Keane we'd always had trouble attracting players to the club. Apparently the shoppings not that good in Sunderland

But once Keane took over a lot more players were suddenly interested in at least opening talks with the manager about signing.

The league you play in also has a lot of weight in this.

As an 'unproven' coach in an 'obscure' BSN club, I saw a lot of players uninterested in my contracts sign with direct competitors. But, after making the jump to the BSP, I'm still 'unproven' and the club is still 'obscure' but I can talk with players of a greater quality.
