I'd love to believe SI had the foresight to include in the game the fact that people, and by consequence assistant managers can be idiots...but I think it's just another FM08 inconsistency.
seems like he is basing his opinion on mcneills potential to be better in the future. i know thats not exactly what he said but it would be my reading of it.

He reckons that McMillen's potential could lead him to becoming a decent Premiership left back in the future.
He believes that McNeill is playing at close to his full potential.
I don't suppose you've got any other left backs at he club (better than Larmour)?
The only thing I can think of is that your assistant isn't considering your trialists as permanant fixtures at the club, to compare to.
Of course, this only works if you hav another left back at the club, who is both better than Larmour, and both your trialists (or he wouln't want to offload them), but that player isn't showing on the team report screen (is he injured? perhaps he can play elsewhere on the pitch as well?)
Even if the situation Ive descibed above is true, it still sounds a bit screwy, but that's the best I can think of to shed light on the situation.

Perhaps he's not comparing the other trialist, and the best left back at the club is the trialist that you are getting the report on in each case.
Why do they only have 1 star? 1 star means way, way below club standard for their position, so if they're both twice as good as Larmour, then they should be 7 stars

SCIAG. I think they only have 1 star because they are pretty carp to be honest. Having said that, if one has the potential to be a decent Premiership player and we are the worst team in the 2nd Division I think that makes just about as much sense as everything else here.
nick... Larmour was the left back on contract at the club at that time. I had a total of 4 other players who could play left back, (of which McMillen & McNeill were 2), but they were all trialists.
If he is ignoring the other trialists, then that sort of makes sense, (well more sense anyway), but the problem is that these players are playing in my league games irrespective of what sort of contract they are on, (or not as the case may be). Ignoring them because they are trialists doesn't seem right, and telling me I should offload both of them seems ridiculous when they are considerably better than anything else I have available.
