I actually think this is a really good idea. If implemented properly it would certainly make some things more clear..although it could become repetitive after a while.

Those match engine problems are spot on and they get more and more annoying with each game. It just doesn;t seem like a football game sometimes, games seem very very similar sometimes aswell.

I think the things with the match engine will be fixed because anyone with half a brain can realise its problems.

However, with your second bit about commentary, I completely agree. The game is called Football Manager, so it makes sense for us to be like managers. This means that during matches we can shout out instructions or give a mini talk to a substitute

Questionable. Some of these issues have persisted since the good ol' CM days.

Sure, but the commentator is merely monitoring events; he doesn't know anything about the tactical setup and player instructions. This means he fairly useless when it comes to evaluating individual performances.

The commentator is a relic, a left-over from a pre-team-talk environment, where tactics was undisputed king. Back then moody players meant little. Now, however, players' whims and fancies are central to top performance, and, ultimately, to success. The commentator does not have the necessary insight to help the manager decode the information that is displayed on the pitch. Hence my proposition. </BLOCKQUOTE>

But it shouldnt be a relic- its vital with a 2D engine in that it MUST give us the little details we cant see.

Problem is it doesnt- not that its there at all.

I think we agree. We need information. The problem is that the type of information offered by the commentator is so scarce and unnecessary it cannot be used sensibly in guiding the players through team-talks. This leads to guess-work and adverse player reactions:

"Pleased" --&gt; "Looked delighted. Seemed demotivated"
"Don't get complacent" --&gt; "Stressed"/"Angry"

With an observant assistant offering useful tidbits of information relating to the psychological state of the players as well as their performance, the team-talk could become so much more focused and concise.

We do- but personally Id just like to see the commentary improved, im not bothered how its dressed up as the end result should be the same.

BTW the commentary does actually comment on mindset- one of the top of my head is "X is losing his head", normally thats a signal to bring a player off before he is sent off.

You don't see managers tuning into live commentary on skysports, listen to their comments and then make changes to their own team. Utterly unrealistic yet again, SI is wasting too much efforts on things which doesn't matter. Resulting in flaws in the match engine, which in my opinion is the most important aspect of the entire game.

don't think of this commentary like skysports commentary. it's suposed to give us more in-depth information, which can't be seen on 2d match engine. information like if ball was headed/kicked, passed/cleared....

other thing is that it should be improved. it didn't changed much since the beginning of this game.

You are right. But when you get this sort of message it's almost too late. Only thing you can do is to sub him ASAP. What I imagine the assistant could do is to give an early indication of a player's mental health if something is out of the ordinary: "X looks a bit unbalanced tonight." In real life, fairly quickly the manager will be able to see if a player appears off, so to speak, something a commentator is unlikely to notice early on.

you are right with that. and it shouldn't be hard to inplant it. what I would be more then glad to see, is a decent match engine. I don't know, looks like SI's become lazy. or it's very hard to fix all things with such match engine. there are just so many things that need to be fixed. I think they are lost with all these new features and stuff that influence match engine. it's a shame, becouse this game has realy good potential.
