DJdeMarco's FM to USB (and back) utility script thingy.
A frequent request on the GQ boards has always been "Can I copy my FM save to another PC and is it easy?"
Well, now it is.
After taking part in a discussion with Jimbokav1971, Jimbokav_Jr_1996 and Amaroq on the GQ forums, a plan was devised and I decided not to sleep until it was fulfilled.
This small CMD script file will enable you to copy your FM2007 saved game onto a USB key and back onto any PC that measures up to its' meagre needs.
Below is a copy of the readme.txt file (which is also included in the zip file) for you to get an idea of what it does and what you need to do to make it work.
I will say now that this is not perfect by any means but it is functional and does the job with no bells and no whistles. Reminds me of what PC's were like when the CM series first appeared all those years ago.
If this is of use to you then great, if not it's still great. Well, I'm knackered and waffling rubbish so I'll just put the details out now.

This program will enable you to copy your saved game, tactics and Edited Database(s) to a USB key (and back to your PC's) in order to move the files between PC's easily.
The way it works is to find the USB keydrive by means of the FMUSB.KEY file and copy the files from the default directories of the PC to the relevant USB Keydrive. It also uses the same key to copy the files from the USB Keydrive back to any PC that meets with the requirements listed below.
What this means is your FM saved game becomes easily portable between Home and your place of employme... errrr, your Grannies.
Place FMUSB.KEY and FMUSB.cmd on the relevant USB device.
Double-click the FMUSB.cmd file to run.
Follow the on-screen prompts to copy the data.
BEFORE DOING THIS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU MEET THE REQUIREMENTS FOR RUNNING THIS FILE AS BELOW.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
VERY IMPORTANT REQUIREMENTS - PUPPIES WILL EXPIRE IF YOU DO NOT READ THIS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It will only work with Football Manager 2007 and only if the following conditions are met:
1) Football Manager 2007's User Data files are stored in the default folders within My Documents (in XP) or Documents (in Vista) (the folders as stated in number requirement number 2).
2) You have a USB key with enough space to contain all of the files currently in the following directories (and enough space left over for when the file sizes increase):
3) You have placed the files named FMUSB.KEY and FMUSB.cmd in the root directory of your USB key. This is very important as it enables the script to automatically find the correct USB Key to copy the files to.
4) The FMUSB.KEY file is not stored in the root folder of any other drive. Having this file in more than one root directory will more than likely result in problems including, but not limited to, the loss of you hair.
5) You have Windows XP or Vista running on the PC's you want to use this on. It will not work on Windows 98, Windows ME or any other OS that doesn't understand Microsoft CMD scripts.
DJdeMarco accepts no liability whatsoever for any loss or damage caused to your saved game, your PC, your Dog, your neighbours lawnmower, the Milkman, the lamp-post at the end of the street where a ukelele player from BOlton is leaning in case a certain little lady passes by or any other object whether living or in-animate whether it was caused by:
1. Accessing or other related actions to this file.
2. Any links, and/or materials provided/attached to this file.
DJdeMarco assumes that all users understand the risks involved within this file and/or its attached materials.
In short, you get what you pay for and this cost nowt. It works without problems for me, if it goes wrong for you it is, categorically, your fault and resposibility.
Having said that, all it does is copy files, so meh.
Thanks go out to Jimbokav1971, Jimbokav_Jr_1996 and Amaroq for giving me the inspiration to spend all night creating and testing something that I will never personally use, instead of catching up on my beauty sleep which is something I desperately need right now.

It might be useful to update it to also include "training" perhaps?
Why not just lift the entire /fm2007 folder?
The original plan was to lift the whole folder but that would've been too easy.
In seriousness though, I didn't see the need to copy files from the folders such as "crash dumps", "skins" and "sounds" as this would be a bit too much bloat for those with smaller USB keys.
I would happily add the training schedules for you but I can't seem to find them.

So this would only work if the save game is in the default directory.
On the other hand, wouldn't just copying the *.fm file from whichever directory u save ur game from one PC to another will do? That's what I have been doing anyway.
My saved game is based on a modified database and there was a complain that I did not have the same modified database installed on the other PC . But that didnt stop me from continuing playing my save game either way.

It is exactly the same thing as doing it yourself. Nothing special other than it makes it a little easier for those who are less technically minded than you or I.

At the moment it does only work if the saved game is in the default directory.
When time allows, I intend on creating a GUI program rather than a script so that it can be run from anywhere and will either ask for the directory or automatically find it for you.
