Has anyone else noticed that in Genie 08, some <STRIKE>crapper</STRIKE> less talented players are rated more highly than their better equivalents? For example David Silva is rated above Cristiano Ronaldo, Jeremy Toulalan above Steven Gerrard, Federico Balzaretti and Tony Hibbert well above Gianluca Zambrotta, Andrea Barzagli is rated as the world's third best centre-back... I could go on.
I realise the 2008 version is still in beta, but I had a look at the rating coefficients from 2007 and 2008, and they're the same. So have the player stats changed emphasis a little since FM07? Is what makes a good centre-back (for example) according to FM08 not the same as what made a good one for FM07? Or are these players geniunely thought by FM08 to be better than other players you might expect to be above them?
no its based on postional stats. e.g overall cannavaro maybe better than say hyypia but hyypia has a better position and header than canna, which in the scout would make hyypia more EFFECTIVE. you might have a striker wit CA and PA of 190, but finishing and heading only 15, where you might have another striker whos PA and CA are 176 but has 20 in finishing and heading at 20, thus meaning he is actually a better person infront of goal.
the genie scout works with a formula of players who are more effective. NOT players who are better.
So Linvoy Primus is more effective than Alessandro Nesta? FM really thinks that?
You may have missed what I was trying to say (or not of course, I may have misunderstood you). I don't use PA or CA at all as I realise they are only guidelines. I'm trying to say that perhaps the coefficients need to be adjusted a little, because despite what Genie 2008 says, I refute that Amauri, Pandev, Fred, Rocchi, Keita, Briand, Zigic and Liedson are all more effective in FM08 than Wayne Rooney.
I don't really see why Silva shouldn't be rated higher than C. Ronaldo. Well, Cristiano is a better player, but Silva is more complete in terms of passing and teamwork.
i thnk you misunderstood me, as i only mentioned PA and CA as an example. i also gave an example without using CA and PA.
tha scout ratings are rated on postional stats avergage. so basicly hyypia could have heading tackling and strength and balance as 20 and pace accel at 9 and postion and marking all at 17 and cannavaro could have head tackle strength and balance at say 16 pace and accel at 14 and postion and marking at 20 that would make hyypia better even tho cannavaro is faster but hyypia is better in the more important aspects of a defender. thus meaning he is more effective.
regarding the wayne rooney thing. erm i believe he only has 15 for finishing. where as fred and zigic both have higher stats. also rooney ISNT a striker, fred and zigic ARE strikers, rooney is more of a complete player but fred nd zigic rely on goals and not playinga complete game. so because they have better finishing ect that means there more effective as a GOAL SCORER. i hope this clears it up. althou im sure theres someone who can back wat im saying but maybe put it clearer!
I understand your point now. However, I simply cannot agree with some of the ratings churned up by Genie 2008. For example:
Matias Fernandez is rated above/rated better than/rated as more effective than Kaka.
Lorik Cana above Owen Hargreaves.
Linvoy Primus and Pepe both above Rio Ferdinand and Alessandro Nesta.
My point is that this is a recurring theme - players that simply are not better.more effective are being rated above their better/more effective counterparts.
My question is essentially this: which is wrong, FM or Genie? Because somewhere along the line between real life and Genie, these ratings have become incorrect. Mark Bresciano is not a better/more effective winger than Franck Ribery.
