Help with lower league! Not creating chances or scoring.
I'm currently managing in the Welsh league and am really struggling.
I do have limited players as there is a transfer window but my biggest problem is creating and converting chances.
My league record is-
P15 W2 D4 L9 GF15 GA27
I'm quite happy with my defence considering but I'm not creating or convertin nowhere near enough chances, my two victories have been 1-0 wins and most of my defeats are 1-0.
My strikers generally struggle with fitness as they are all over 31 and have fairly low finishing stats, I have a new striker coming in a few weeks to improve this but what can I do to create more chances?
I've tried short(ish) passing, direct and mixed but still dont really threaten any of the teams. I'm quite experienced playing FM so am suprised at how poorly I'm doing.
Any help is much appreciated!!

I was having this same problem until last night, and is was kinda buggin me as i consider myself to be pretty good at the game. Anyway i noticed what it finally boils down two is pace. Every team needs pace, particularly in the defence and midfield areas.
As for you not scoring chances are you playing with the right strike partnership? You need to play one out-and-out striker (only position is ST) with more of team player (one who's team work is pretty high and can possibly play in other outfield positions). It's usually best to go for the old big/small partnership.
Positonal Breakdowns:
Wingers:
Need pace in abundance. Also need workrate and teamwork
Centre Mids:
If you want to create chances you need one CM with high creativity, passing and technique. If you have one of them make them your playmaker. Dont forget they will also need pace! You also need one midfielder with great takling and workrate, to complement the creative one. Try these tips and see what happens i guess. There's obviously more to it than that of course but i'll need more information that what you've given

I'm playing with cambridge in the lower leagues and i have to agree that pace is important..maybe a bit too important. I was lucky to get W.Ham as a feeder club, even luckier when they offered me a long term player on loan..he's now bagged 25 goals for us in the league.
Other important areas you need to remember to look at is teamwork, fitness is a real problem in LLM games, the fixtures come thick and fast in the BSP and sometimes you get as many as 4 games in a week.
I also have a few formations to choose from: I have one where i depend on a lone fast striker and I have others which use midfielders as the main threat.

I find this strange, I've won the second match since adding the farrow I mention, again the result was 3-0 against the side third in the league.
I wouldn't of thought adding one farrow would make so much difference as the player in question was set to a fairly attacking mentality. Not only that but my defence is looking alot better on the ball and we're keeping possession far better in midfield. I know getting a big win inspires confidence after a poor run of form but I wouldn't of thought one farrow would make so much difference to the whole team.
Rashidi1 and anyone else interested, what are your thoughts on this?

I think the farrow to AMC has given your entire team a brand new passing option, as well as extra support in the box for your strikers.
What passing style have you been using since you added the farrow, and what kind of individual contribution has your MC/AMC been making (goals, high pass completion, assists, runs, etc)?

Without knowing what your formation looks like, arrows have now become quite an important facet of the game. They give you the flexibility of telling players where to go with and without the ball. If you're familiar with the wimbo screens, its almost similar except that the Wimbo screens were too easy to manipulate.
The farrow on the MC will have made it attack as an AM and defend as an MC. The attacking mentality also means he's now looking for attacking further up the pitch. FWR also means he's going to make a forward run there first and will be a good target to pass to.
I've always believed that you need to stick out the first couple of games of any season, sometimes you need to draw a couple of games while your players gel, and if you can get the odd win here and there its good. Once you have a settled side and you feel confident that you can say the right thing at halftime its usually time to let loose.

OK thanks guys. The main contribution he has made is with assists which have mainly just been sliding through balls for a striker to finish. My whole team looks more coherrant (sp) though from the back four distributing the ball to my midfield players picking out other players runs.
I'm not complaining though as the last two result have made my job secure but my only concern is possibly that the result of one farrow has had an over-exaggerated affect on my team?
