Thank you Rash for getting me back into the game:thup:
Its been a long time since Ive been active both within the forums and with creating tactics, but now Im back in the game it seems.
Im also as those who know me, one of the old school. Since the first CM, my main goal has always been to try to implement real life tactics - or at least logics into my games. This used to be too easy pre CM4, which
IMO was the turning point of the game. From then and forwards, it has been harder and harder(not impossible, just harder).
Allthough being able to create successful tactics, it has been too much "number crunching" for me, and I have never managed to get into it the same way as before.
But sometimes its just small inputs from people like you, that makes it clearer - and therefore making me able to implement logical solutions into the tactics again.
What happened was that I managed to create a stable basic 442 formation with Rosenborg with the demo (which Im still on, thanks to being a student that have to buy books for £100 this month...), which worked very well - apart from one small thing. I just wasnt able to get my team to hold the ball up, keeping possession and passing rate up.
No matter what I did, it just wasnt possible. I managed to up my passing from 50-55% to 55%-65%, but couldnt go beyond that level. All the things that to me seemed as logical explanations and solutions, just didnt work.
So, I gave up the project and started with Liverpool, thinking that the tactic would fit them better.
Main problem with RBK was possession, passing and shot ratio - things that I hoped would be better playing as Liverpool.
As I expected, things got a little bit better with LFC, but not too much. My possession was 51% both home and away, passing 66% at home and 63% away, whilst shooting was 52% at home and 56% away.
Not good enough for me - this was not what I wanted. I wanted a tactic that could be possessional and have a higher passing rate than this.
The team Ive been playing for IRL (like 22nd tier in England lol) has managed to keep the ball and have less passes thrown away, so why shouldnt I get LFC to manage this?
The way I want to play is to have a slow tempo with lots of passes to keep the ball, and create less but better chances. I also want my team play shorter passes against better teams, because these teams are often better at picking out long passes, and are harder to break down.
But as I said, I have had trouble implementing this into the latest versions of FM. "And here I go again" was my thoughts. I know how it should work, I know how it should look, both in real world and FM. I know what I would do in real life, but in FM I was left stranded. I have lost my ability to do this, mainly because I have been locking myself to "proven" theories, instead of doing what I was best at: analyzing the matches, patiently do small number of changes until everything was working the way I wanted.
So I basically had given up this time, just accepting that my old theories couldnt be implemented, and that all the others have outclassed me when it comes to creating tactics in FM.
Then I read this thread. I have especially read what you Rash (and others) have been writing about the short passing game. Suddenly things started to come back, the logic behind the thoughts were there instantly - and I felt that it still was hope for me.
So I started to do what I was good at, analyzing the matches with the ideas mentioned in here in mind. Then I could see some things that logically should be changed to get my team to play my kind of game. Started to adjust the tactic based on the ideas in here - and the result came almost instant.
At home I have managed to up my possession by 5%(now 56% avg) and the passing by 7%(now 73% avg). Downside is that shot precision has gone down by 2%.
Away the possession is now 3% higher(54%) and passing 3% better(66%). But also here the shot precision has gone down - by 11%
So all I wanted to say is that, by reading your inputs here on possession, passing and tempo, I have managed to get the team to play more the way I like them to play - short passing and high possession. And all within the logics of football(at least the way I see it :p).
Thanks Rash, KUTGW
(now all I have to do is adjusting my attacking part a little to get the shots back on target... )
