depending on their age, i have had great success by sending out my young talented youngsters who cant quite break into my first team on loan for 1-3 seasons to gain experience.

Both: long-term loans to your affiliates or other interested clubs, as well as learning from a similar type of player. Check to see if the player has a teammate comparison in his personal section; if so then perhaps assign the teammate to be the tutor, but it can depend on personality types.
