Tactics & Training Tips

It's no use having a squad full of star players without a decent way for them to play their football.

Default How to defend against a 4-3-3?

I seem to have awful problems against this 4-3-3 with the lone striker causing havoc. Any ideas as how to conteract this?

Same here, no matter if they're tall, short, fast, slow all seem to totally baffle my defense.

No real answer found yet, I just hope they miss their chances which is a rather sad state of affairs

This is how i defend against a lone striker:

If he is right footed i would put my left DC to tight man mark him and up his closing down a bit.

The right DC i would drop his mentality 1 or 2 notches and put him on loose zonal marking.

Works ok imo.

If you are playing with a DCM, try having him man mark the lone striker. Trying to use one of your CDs can leave a hole in the middle of your defence which the AI will use to good effect. Hope this is of some little use to you.

Problem is it seems to baffle the game engine - you shouldn't have to make stupid numbers of changes to accomodate it. Was the same in FM07 too.

It's actually unbeatable as far as I can tell against a top team- if i'm facing Man Utd with that well known great lone striker Rooney (sarcasm there ) he wins headers, gets about 10 shots a game no matter what I do.

Pah.

I'm just using team instructions and these formations no longer cause a problem.

just don't let your full backs make attacking runs and tell at least on of your CM to be defensive and with no forward runs. Attack down the flanks.
