I've only just cracked how to play in 8.0.1. This isn't about my tactic as such but how the instructions are effecting shots on target and goals.
To win most games I play a default 4-4-2 with the following modifications:
LM and RM have farrows one position forward.
Mentality 4 clicks to the left.
Creative freedom 5 clicks to the left.
Passing style 4 clicks to the left.
Tempo 4 clicks to the left.
Width 2 clicks to the right.
Closing down 3 clicks to the right.
Time wasting normal.
Defensive Line 3 clicks to the left.
Tackling normal.
Both centrebacks on tight marking.
Everybody has longshots set to rarely.
Other than that, player instructions are untouched.
My original style was to let the opponent take shots at my keeper with him gaining confidence. While taking less shots, so if my strikers do miss it doesn't effect their confidence as much. I rarely tweak.
I made a spreadsheet to track my shots, shots on target and goals which you can download below. The numbers below the shots on target and goals are pecentages.
Anybody interested in trying something similar and we could compare results?
It is worth noting that in my test my team beats the AI on everything, even percentage wise. Even though I dominate I still feel cheated by the amount of shots I have. Although, if I delete the Man City Reserves friendly, I match the computer on shots-shots on target percentages.
So really, in my opinion, the only thing wrong with the match engine at the moment is that the user has too many shots.
