I would try it out and see, if its not working as a player is too slow then you can lower their closing down.
Hyypia - I wouldn't play him
Carragher - Should be fine as DC, wouldn't play as a right back though
Finnan - Too slow for right back
Riise, Aurelio, and Insua should all be good left backs
Mascherano - might work since he does have high pace.
As for the midfield, I would experiment with Matias Fernandez and Gerrard and see which is the better at AMC, then move whichever isn't playing AMC to the right or left wing. Babel will be ok playing anywhere. You might not even want to bother getting VDV. Quaresma would be a better buy for about the same price range.

Interesting tactic. Am going to give it a whirl with my Granada CF squad in the Spanish BBVA Segunda B and see how it goes. Might tweek for the lower skills some of my players have though, as a lower league variant.
As for some of the prior suggestions regarding choice of team being too high.... EH!?! West Ham and Leicester too high!?! I think that dispite some of the players you've signed, it's not as if you've brought in a full squad of world class players is it. Good results from the West Ham screenshots, which pretty much speak for themselves.
| Thanks, I kind of see where hes coming from a bit. I did sign good players to West Ham and Leicester, but even with I would say their still a mid table side. But then I see most of the tactics on this forums with screens from Barca, Man U etc and I couldn't imagine not winning with these sides to be honest.
Is Grenada fun? Do you happen to have a facepack for them? I have been looking at starting a lower league game in Spain or Italy.

for my LL incapable Telstar side (dutch) i had to increase passing to last notch of mixed, decrease closing down for CB's and put my FB's on defensive ment(6) with mixed FR to have succes. Great tactic thanks.
