I have that fear too, it would be a shame for a long term game to go down the drain because of a silly bug, hopefully though the patch will be released quick sharp adn my paranoia will be eased

Seriously, don't be so timid, 08 doesn't bite, just nibbles a bit.

The patch is mostly for match engine fixes, as long as you don't start with a team that has points deducted it should be save game compatible.
