Threads generally used to start with an on topic discussion, some off topic banter and then steered itself back on course.

Now it just seems to be on topic question, two replies, off topic banter, useless drivel and postboosting.

All this +1 and (shameless potboost) is starting to really get on my tits and it's dragging the forum down.

Now don't get me wrong, I love a bit of off topic banter and that's probably what makes this a community instead of a forum, but it's starting to go a bit too far.

The off topic thread is there for a reason, please use it instead of dragging what could perhaps be a good discussion about LLM into complete drivel.

Hopefully this is all that needs to be said on the matter, but I will speak to the other mods in a few days and perhaps we will review the direction of the forum.

This place lasted longer than CMC ever did on here and it seems to be fairly on topic mostly.

At least most of the threads seem to be started with the best of intentions to talk about FM rather than mostly off topic stuff the previous incarnation of this place ended up as.

Yeah threads are started with the best intentions. Unfortunately, they seem to be dragged off topic far too easily and it seems they don't have a chance ever getting back on the subject.

I agree Craig0. As I am still relatively new to this I don't really understand all of the post-boosting stuff, it does'nt add anything to LLMa. Don't get me wrong, I love this forum and rarely a day goes by when I don't laugh at a post (alongside my own management skills) and some off topic banter is class.
But some posts just seem a little pointless to people like me.
But then again what do I know?

It's "new game" syndrome, isn't it? There's been another influx of n00bs who think that the (+1) s**t is cool. It looks like we might have some good new posters but it'll take a while to settle down.

I mean, it's the very same trend every late october here.

I would agree, but it seems to me that the difference this year is that it seems a lot of the culprits are the regulars, hence this post.

True, but in the past there'd have been barbeque threads instead. I guess you pick your poison - friendly but annoying postboosting, or a flame-fest.

Barbecue threads occurred when the poster had broken the rules though. What is happening now just seems to bevalid threads descending into drivel.
