Default A Hello and A Question

Firstly, hello to all. Been playing since Champ Man 97/98 on the Amiga! Been some gaps in between but like a moth to a light find myself with the latest copy of SI's installments.

Secondly, my question which is quite the concern.

Although I've been to see the Irons and the O's, I'm probably more of a neutral which makes an easy choice for me at the beginning of every game as I start unemployed every time. When I started my first game on FM08 I started off taking over Shelbourne in the Irish 1st Div, got myself sacked after 3 1/4's of a season and finally ended up at Blue Square Norths Alfreton. Things started dismally after not playing since FM05 and even then not really getting into it. I've then gone through the forums and managed to pick up fragments of information on how to employ tactics and play the game better so I decided on a fresh start.

As the game had been running fine, I opened up a couple more leagues and started unemployed again, this time I was snapped up after a few months with a team in Italy. I didn't like it. Every player had stats above 10 in almost every attribute and it seemed their value and AssMan's views are the only things that seperated the quality of the players for me.

My concern is that if I ever get any good at this game and start acheiving promotion, etc. Am I gonna stop enjoying it? I love having to balance the books, trying to bolster the team with meagre freebies, using my scouts report cards as my only guides, working closely with my AssMan, organising friendlies with top clubs and feeling as wealthy as a king when they play a home friendly against us.

Or am I just being a tw*t and should just get on with it? *Disclaimer - This question is partly rhetorical*

Going through forums to pick up fragments of information on how to employ tactics and play the game better is not what LLM is all about.

Have a read of a few threads and more importantly, the LLM guidelines sticky at the top of the page.

I'd have said you'd enjoy promotion more if you do all the hard work to get there.

I thought that particular comment might cause some backlash. I can assure you my learnings have been gained purely from the LLM forum from descriptions of players experiences within the game rather than any particular tactic or tips, I don't want to ruin the game for myself, just a gain a better insight into both the game of football and the tactics employed therein. I'm sure LLM isn't all about being absoloute rubbish at FM08 and doing nothing about it to improve...

TBH I did check the Tactics forum but left after seeing that most threads were for paticular teams, none of them LL.

Nonetheless, apologies if I blasphemed.

Back to my question then...

Yes you did, the tactic and good players forums are strictly out of bounds for LLM, but if you stay away from them you should be fine.

An interesting proposition although you are getting way ahead of yourself thinking about promotion, destiny may dictate that you spend a 20 year career in the lower leagues without even a whiff of promotion.

I do think you're over thinking LLM a little, there are a number of update threads that have seen LLaMas managing some very large clubs at the highest leval in what are long and illustrious careers. It is your career & as IRL you choose how that devlops some people strive to be the best manager in the game & others decide that managing many clubs in the lower reaches is more to their tastes, we just all choose to start at the lowest available league & let the game devlop naturally from there.

Other than that welcome to LLM, as Craig said stay away from those other places & may your career be at least 25% what you hoped for.

Not from what I've read of your exploits Barside! Promotion seems quite possible I see what you mean though. I just wondered if anyone had started as a LLM and developed their side into an accomplished team to find they were more HLM than LLM at some point, what they did about it and how they felt. Obviously, the rules state it's time to start again once you get too high but this seems to be quite a disappointing end to a successful career...

I think you've mis-interpreted the rules Rickee, what the people in this forum strive for is realism within the game world & that success/management greatness is a part of the footballing world that should be embraced & celebrated (but not bragged about).

Should have mentioned these rules that you talk of only apply to how & what you post in this forum, everything else about LLM play is made up of guidelines & for want of a better phrase a code of ethics.
