Back to Greys Athletic... I remember we had this issue with 07, and probably 06 too. The players are there in the database, but don't load up when the game starts. I had lost to Burscough (then in the Northern Premier) in the cup, who were comprised of two on loan players, yet on the full database they had 26 or 27.
I think it's a major problem if you select large database and yet the teams that can be promoted to the playable leagues (such as Burscough in this example) don't have any players in the game, despite them being present in the database.
If this situation carries on, then the reputation/ability of these greys needs to be lowered, as there are far too many beating better class teams.

Nobby, you are right, it is also present in FM06. It was one of the deterrants to play in the lower leagues of England; grey teams would dominate in leagues that were not the ones where they started originally, it was very unbalanced. Loading the full database did not solve the problem as it would slow down the game (at least in my PC) considerably.

I'm having the same "problem" in France. Knocked out 3 non-league teams in the cup, all filled with greys. Using a small database iirc.
Come to think of it, I remember some of the teams I managed in FM07 didn't have any players at all too... Can't remember anything about database sizes, but think they were all "fresh" teams (aka, not teams you can pick at the start of the game).

at least you got far in the Cup... 
actually, maybe the Grey phenomenon can explain the reason behind so much variability in cup success. Teams from lower, unidentified leagues compete against "realistic" teams, and in somecases they have an upper hand due to their grey players... just a though...

Just started my first save with Redditch, and have played 6 friendlys so far. The only thing I’ve noticed is that my team can only lose. I know its only friendlys (sp.), but they have all been been grey teams (teams full of greys).
6 friendlys and 29 goals conceded, the fewest I have conceded is 4. I know there has been talk about Grey teams being ridiculously good, is this what people mean. Anyone else experienced this?
