Is everybody else still having this problem with FM08?
I've started a new game, and to keep things a little more interesting, I unticked the 'use real player names' box (don't know if that's the source of the issue or not), and my club didn't start with a scout.
I've been advertising in the job centre for ages, with no response at all.
To experiment a little, I advertised for all of the other staff positions, and have received a good response for all of them, even for a fitness coach, which I couldn't got for love nor money in FM07.
I'm loath to use the staff search screen when the job centre is allegedly working ok, but at the moment, I have no left sided players at all (even really carp reserve or youth players) and only 3 strikers, one of which is out with a long-term injury. Although I have 8 central defenders!!
I'm getting desperate, and this is stopping me from enjoying FM08 as much as I otherwise would.
So, is anybody else suffering with this? Has anybody had any response to scout adverts, or is it just my bad luck?
Yep, I've applied the beta-patch. And being the adventurous type, I'm managing Basingstoke in the Blue Square Southern. Maybe it's down to the fact I'm using the randomly generated players and staff. Might need to start over using the proper players, which is a shame because I find the facegen faces quite amusing!
It seems to be a bit hit and miss - country, club, maybe even game-dependant. In Romania I had no real problem - it took me about a month to get responses, pre-patch. That said, pre-patch the average response time I saw for AI teams in the ECN/ECS (or BSN, BSS, if you prefer) was, as memory serves, somewhere over 2 months to sign a scout if they didn't have one to start with, with the longest taking about 4 months.
Post-patch, no idea, although IIRC scout advert response wasn't on the list of things to be changed.
