I'm running all leagues in Europe and managing in Sweden.

For research purposes I put an advert in the job centre on game date August 30th.

16th of September I have six applicants from Scandanavia who all speak Swedish.

All of them are unemployed, and all of them are sh*te.

I'm sure I'll be blasted for this but if I am the manager of a real football team and need a scout I do what it takes to find one. The first step might be to place the ad for the position, but unfortunately scout for a LL team is not exactly a glorified position where you can expect an overwhelming response. If I am really doing my job as manager I go ahead and use all of my contacts to generate my own list of potential candidates for the job. Certainly the Player Search feature is an over simplification to the process, but this outright dismissal of the feature in regards to hiring staff is ridiculious.

I think the preceding few posts prove you're wrong.
If FM is working properly then the job centre should provide.
If it doesn't FM is broke and needs fixing.

Hold on a second here Kriss, the preceding posts don't prove me wrong. All I am saying is that in real life a manager would never take such a passive approach to signing such an important role for his team. Unless the manager has burned all of his bridges a quick call to an old friend asking "do you know any up and coming scouts looking for some experience" is most certainly an essential step in real life.

Certainly I can see why LLaMas would like the challenge in avoiding the Player Search screen (and I agree for players), but it is just not realistic to think that a real manager with a couple contacts couldn't generate a decent list of scouts looking for work within a short period of time.

Well, I so far have not been able to get a scout through the job centre in FM08.

Bearing in mind I had no problem with this in FM07, even with the newly-promoted-to-league Raceview Rangers in Northern Ireland I had no problem getting applications for scouts, this to me shows the job centre in FM08 is broken.

Just to expand on my point above, Raceview are that much lower than a snakes belly, I could get pretty much any staff member I wanted, although most players (even really rubbish ones) wouldn't sign!

In that case it's not realistic for them not to have their name down at the job centre.
It is therefore broke and if it was unbroke this discussion would be superfluous.

The option of asking others is also implemented in FM. You can ask players to recommend staff for you. I've never got a name from them, but it's there.

It seems that the Job Centre works for some and not for others. So I think it's safe to say there are some issues with it. Not huge ones, but some. I had an ad running for months in two separate clubs without getting a single reply.

Not sure if it matters, but this was before I applied the betapatch.

As I said in my post above, if realism was the issue - How many LLM teams can even afford scouts? I can only speak for Sweden, and I would say that most teams do not have scouts at all.

So, therefore it is unrealistic to even search for scouts, via the jobcenter or otherwise, no?

But as this is LLM and the only way to find players is via scouts, I'll guess that realism would have to step aside for a bit.
