Yup, I agree with Craig as to releasing late vs releasing on time with potential bugs. With a game as complex as FM, it is inevitable that some bugs will be present, I'm just grateful that SI release a fix pretty quickly every year.

I was just surprised at the amount of changes in the changelog. Testing must be a nightmare!

They got a lot more this year, it didn't improve anything.

Too many people are under the impression that SI produce the game and then it's tested, it doesn't and can't work like that.

The many modules are developed and tested separately using a code tree, periodically the code tree components are compiled to give a game which works but subject to the stage of each "branch".

The gold code is compiled very late in the day and is only available for test in the period of manufacture.
That's one reason we pick things up in testing then that we couldn't before but it can't be rectified until a patch is produced.

Security alone means it has to be that way, once the gold code is in existence it's a target for every pirate from the Java Sea to Penzance.

My personal opinion is that FM will always require patching after release and maybe SI should state that on the cover.

From SI's point of view a patch is also a chance to scupper the pirates for a bit longer too, although I've no idea if that is in their thinking.

SInce I don't have the internet on the PC I play FM on, can I download the patch, stick it on a memory stick and upload it again?

I don't see why that would be a problem, Moony. The file is only 10MB if I remember correctly.

I'm having a weird second season with the patch. After seven games the three promoted sides, Marine, Hednesford and Bedford are the top three, all have scored 30+ goals and all have scored at least eight goals in a game once.

Yep, it's an executable application in it's own right, so will install to any PC running FM08.

Because of the huge number of changes including under the hood ones, we should note anything peculiar which in some scenarios we are more likely to notice than others.

Your observations warrants a post on the bugs forum imo.
