I've never tried this so tonight I'm going to start a new game with all the playable Eastern European leagues + England and Germany loaded and start unemployed for the added realism. I have two questions.
1) How long can I expect to remain unemployed before a club gives me a chance? (if this is tipping then ignore :S)
2) My past experience will be set to the lowest but what if an English League 1 or 2 team come in for me. Would I have to reject it to play as LLM? (I probably would anyway as I want to manage an obscure European team and eventually finish my career in England or Germany if I earn it)
Some people have reported waiting ages to get a job when starting unemployed on FM08, but apparently this has been looked at with the patch so should be ok. Make sure you patch up, definitely.
I'd be impressed if a League 1 or 2 team offered you a job. I've not managed this as an unknown, but feel free to take the job. I wouldn't worry about what hasn't happened yet eh?
If you do manage a lower league team (and we're talking sub conference here in England, pref, then come and tell us about your journey in three seasons
I'll be back to tell you about it in three season time.
Don't think I'll be managing an English team to start with, I'm hoping to get some obscure Bulgarian or Slovak team. (I'm assuming the lowest divisions in these countries count as LLM)
From what I understand, the nationalities you give yourself also make a bit of a difference, but I don't know for certain. I think you can expect to be approached by a managerless team that's predicted to be relegated. If you don't receive a job offer straight away, then I'd say your next chance would be some time after midseason, when a relegation battling team sacks their manager. So don't lose hope if you've not got a job by the start of the new season.
I've never had a non-lowest league offer starting unemployed on 'automatic' experience, but I've been offered jobs from just about any lowest league relegation-threatened hellhole - with the exception of biggish single leagues like the MLS and Australia - even though I'm nowt but English.
There are a few teams who start of managerless, so you may get an offer early on. Just check "Apply for everything" or some such, and go on holiday till you get an offer.
I know it had an effect before, but not sure how it is now. If you picked English and played in England, clubs would come in for you fairly quickly. Pick something else and they'll leave you alone. As they damn well should!
