Scouting - report cards or the watch-him-play rule?
I RTFHed and searched the forum, but to no avail, so here it goes: with the changes in the scouting system introduced in FM 2007 and messed-up... ekhm, improved in FM 2008 it is possible now to request a scout to provide either a report card or a more thorough observation. Which brings the question - is a completed report card enough to consider a player scouted?

I see no problem here. If you need a player urgently and can't wait for the 3 match report then a report card will do, its just less accurate and more of a risk.

Say it were real life, and it was deadline day, leaving you with a matter of hours to sign someone, and you desperately needed a player in a certain position, then a scout report would probably be all that you cuold gather in that time.
However, if it's the first day of the window, any manager would be far more likely to let their scouts reveal a handful of targets, of whom the manager would ask for further viewing of.
Another thing I'd have to say is where would you find the player that you'd be scouting? By getting a scout report, I hope you don't mean going into the player search with the intention of getting a report on every player under a certain filter. The player would have to have come to attention through an LLM accepted means.

Once place I tend to use the report card option is if i'm offered a player in a part exchange deal, by the time the 3 match report comes around the deal will probably be off so I usually just settle for a report card.

Getting a report card means the player has caught the eye of the scout while he's out and about, eating pies and drinking etc.
It's an initial impression, but possibly the player was just having a good day, or the others playing that day made him look good, and the scout makes a few notes.
I'd use it as a basis to decide whether to scout the player further or not. the more times he's watched, the more accurate the report will be (depending on the Scouts abilities of xure).

I would rather scout him for one game than use the report card. I don't know how long the report card takes, but if he has to go and watch the game anyway then I don't really see where a report card will fit in.

Craig, the report card comes up usually straight after your next continue. I would say the real life equivalent is the scout making a call or two asking if anyone thinks he's any good.

Weird, because I thought I would test it and I haven't had anything yet. Yeah I guess if you are on the deadline I could see why the report card would be used.
