Hello all, first I have to say I am a big fan of the Pc version and was very enthusiatic about the release of the 360 version. The single player game is a sweet job and I for one didnt find it too difficult to get used to using a controller over the Mouse/keyboard issue ( mainly down to using RB and LB buttons you can find anything). The speed when processing screens is a hell of a lot quicker than my 2.6gig pc (1.5gig ddr) which is impressive to me. With the added elements in game it really is a nice package and for a single player game is about as good as there has been on a console.
The problem I have is online. I am part of a large team on Xbox live who primarily consist of console heads so many were unaware of CM or FM games or if they knew, they hadnt played them. So, as I knew this was being released I placed messages on our own forum and spoke to many of our members who eagerly went and preordered it and got it delivered Thursday. Many got it and more probably will recieve it today. Ok a few of us spent 4 hours or so last night playing online together, and the league was finished.
Now that I have babbled on for long enough can I ask
-Why cant we play part of a proper league, ie: 8 of us play using the default teams in the full premiership, and save the game so we can continue later?
-Why cant we buy / sell players?
aswell as all the other areas available on the pc version online play.
The Xbox360 is an online console with a huge online community, I feel without the online career mode the game will fall flat on its face, which I think would be a crying shame.
I have spoken to many people on Live and they were excited about playing a full league with a chosen team and to battle it out.
Console gamers are the most fickle I have come across and soon lose interest in games, and to be honest I dont think this will hold their attentions long unless they play single player which really is a contradiction to what the 360 is.
I feel even though with all the plus points of the 360 game it is let down with its online capabilites, i know I am not alone here. Would I have been better saving £30 or so and getting it on pc and joining an online pc group, I think yes.
Unless a patch is released that can address this crucial area ( and i think thats asking a bit much) many will be trading FM2006 in very soon, after all it is a management game.
I know exactly what you mean Alfie.
I have been playing the pc/amiga versions for years and years and think the game is brilliant.
Over the last 4/5 years, two friends of mine have been coming over to my house every 2nd Wednesday for some "Hot Seat" action.
Now as we get older, circumstances change - my good lady wife is due to give birth in a couple of months, which will obviously have a huge impact on my gaming time .
When this was announced for the 360 i couldnt wait, as i was anticipating the Live element would be the same as network games on the pc.
Seeing as one of the guys who plays doesnt have a pc, i thought this would be ideal - a couple of hours Live play every now and then to keep the whole FM thing going.
So when the Live element turned out to be less than i was paying for i was gutted.
One of my mates (the non pc owning one) has already bought the game, and is loving it, but i'm afraid i will probably hold off, as it doesnt offer me anything new to the pc version i own.
This is not a dig at SI, as the game is great and obviously they are just dipping their toes into a new console, but i would love it if the next version had "proper" online leagues, transfers etc.
Mind you, i might end up divorced if that happened
The idea behind the live thing is that you can connect to it and find an opponent to play right away. This isn't possible with the way games are played online with the PC version and having to rely on a host to be online to continue your game.
The way the game works isn't ideal for a large multiplayer game and the Xbox Live stuff we have in there is great for one off games or tournaments and trying to prove once and for all who is the best. Obviously like everything we do we'll be gathering feedback and trying to make improvements in any future versions that are released.
Thanks for the reply. I understand your case and I see your point clearly however I for one look forward to the time when we can manage a team online. Till then the online management experience will have to be done on the PC
Cheers for the reply Ter
Maybe we are just being greedy, lol, but hopefully something can be done in future that will allow the casual players to play the one off tournies and others to get stuck into a full online game (even if it was limited to 4/6 players)
It must be frustrating for SI - the better and better the game becomes over the years, the more people want/expect.
Fingers crossed it sells well and allows you guys to keep developing the whole FM experience
Boy am I glad I read this one before the game arrives in my store this tuesday. I have really been looking forward to this 360 version to play together with a friend of mine who lives in a completely different part of the country. I thought we were going to play like we used to when we were young and promising students with all night to go in a hotseat competition managing Everton and Liverpool respectively. Now it looks like it is not possible to play a game with your friend on the xbox360 live, and that must be just about the opposite of what I was expecting for this game.
Will of course not be buying it now, since most of the fun I have had with the CM and FM is competing against my friend. Playing with yourself isn't that fun anymore when you have tasted the real thing
Hopefully a real 360 version will be available the next time so that I can play this game the fun way.
Thanks Alfie UK for pointing out that FM for the box missed the thing that I really expected to be a main part of the game.
SI - please look into what you are doing and try to understand how a lot of people are playing this game online.
Hi Jonnyfer, you can play online against your mate, its just you cant play in the full league like you can on the Pc. Im sure , like Derrickr said if the sales warrant it a new improved version will be released, for now im stuck with the single player and the occasional online game. As I have not picked one of the premiership teams to play I have a lot more work to do to get them upto standard to compete online against the likes of Man U and Chelsea, as these seem to be the popular choices of many onliners :/ Anyway it is definitly worth buying, just not sure it is if you have it on the Pc and I certainly havent posted this to try and put people off from buying an excellent albeit (slightly flawed in my opinion) game
I wondered why the 'full' PC online expereince wasn't present in this version too.
But FM has always been a solo experience for me, I've *never* had an online game on Champ/FM since the very first Champ in '93. Mainly because most of my mates either didn't like football or didn't have decent PC's.
Though I think I'd lose friends in one of my many hissy fits when I inevitably get tonked anyway.
Nah, the single player is where it's at for me, though I'm always up to try out the online mode if just to share ideas on tactics/etc. Even in it's 'cut down' state (I agree with the casual console gamer theory behind it, though most console FM fans aren't your average console gamer all the same ), I bet it's still more addictive than any other game on Live.
Honestly, I thought my 360 would rekindle the love I once had for LIve last year, but it's not. I just get lumped with some brain-dead humourless folk on games like BF2 (I already have the superior PC version for feck's sake! ). Hmmmm...maybe I will play FM on Live after all..
