I used to play CM 01/02 and previous versions a lot, never really bothered with the FM series - downloaded the demos but somehow never really got into them.
Anyways, as I have a 360 and few games to play on it yet thought I'd try out FM 06. I'm loving it - completely addicted - good work SI. Been playing with Barca - first go got sacked 4 games befoe end of season once the title was no longer an possibility, despite the fact I was on a good winning streak and the team was settled. Chairman said I'd lost the players but suspect it was as the title wasn't ours. Gutting but guess realistic.
Can anyone clarify a few things for me;
- If I have a decent AM with good dribbling, pace, long shots, passing and creativity - would it confuse the player to put him on "often" for running with the ball, long shots and through balls. In other words is it ok to have multiple selections on often for a single player or should I just set one to often?
- Forward runs for a striker - setting this to mixed or often what is the effect? - does he go wide or just make more runs into space?
- Is it possible to recall a player from loan? - if so how!?
1. I always have multiple commands ticked, seems to work ok; have Leo Messi running my midfield with often through balls, forward runs, and free role.
2. I have Palacio set to forward run and run with the ball, they come short to pick it up and run wide if needs be; seems to work a lot better than just being static; guess it depends on the type of player. I had Shearer just sitting there and he was a goal machine in his last season.
3. You can sometimes, it depends on whether you set it as a condition when agreeing to it. Hit RB in the player profile screen, and there should be a recall from loan button. If its not there, then it was not selected when the loan started.
Hope that helps, I'm also pretty addicted. First season as Newcastle, finished in 7th in prem; won the euro cup. This season the title is mine, made some awesome signings thanks to selling Owen to Chelski for 45m!
On point one looking over at the dugout some chap seems to suggest that mixed commands may not work e.g. run with ball and through balls or long shots and through balls.
Free role wouldn't conflict with through balls nor necessarily would forward runs. But long shots or crosses along with through balls on often may confuse the player - i.e. after he's made his forward run or dribbled what's he going to do shoot, pass or cross when his boss has told him to do all three!!!!
Points 2 & 3 cheers - that explains things.
Just started a new game with Barca and lost my first three league games. Luckily saved it after sorting through my squad, getting new coaches and importing training schedules etc. So will restart from their when I next have a day free!

I've found that creative freedom effects whether a striker will move into the channels to create space. Forward runs seems to effect how often a player will try and beat the offside trap and close in on goal (i think.).
