I started a game on holiday until 2019/20 season and when I took control of Sydney FC all their restrictions were gone (wage, max internationals, youth players etc.) I'm supposing this is hard coded into the game (don't know when it occurs or if it's even a bug) but i have a few personal problems with it.
1. All the teams are 98% international players.
2. The FFA/AFC/FIFA would NEVER allow that (I doubt that the 4 internationals maximum imposed by the AFC will ever be removed or dramatically relaxed as it more or less destroys youth development.)
3. Way too many players in each team, easily fitting under the wage budgets of most of the teams (some getting very rich.)
It is true that eventually the A-League will take away the wage restrictions (and not force every single good Australian player to move overseas because a fourth tier European club can offer you 5 times the pay which, lets face it, every football player needs because their careers don't last forever.)
But my point is that if this is a hard-coded feature, not a bug, it would be better if it was improved in either a future patch or FM 2009 so that Australian football is not destroyed.

Hmm, it sounds like a bug to me! Is it a legit copy? I remember SI saying dodgy copies had weird results in world cup and other tournaments.
I am on 2024 with my FM 07 game with Perth and there are none of these issues, so maybe it's another 08 bug, or they have actually thought ahead (though, if they have, they should have added another 4 teams)!!!!
