Well FM09 will most likely end up being 8.0.2 with a couple of new features which don't work.

Exactly - bring out 8.02 around mid Feb, then final patch in April (making sure that
everything is fixed), then release a data update with no game changes in October 2008.
Then test the hell out of FM2010 </BLOCKQUOTE>
Why would they do that though ?
I'm looking at play.com and FM08 is currently sitting at the top of the PC game chart, with many other big titles under it. People are and still will buy the game each year. The majority of fans/users wont ever grace this forum.
At the end of the day Si/Sega can make money by releasing a new version each year. Can you really imagine them saying to sega "alright mr sega, we don't want to release FM this year because a few hundred people complained on the forum about it, i know that we would have sold hundreds of thousands anyway..." Even if they skipped a year I would be surprised if the sales were any higher.
I'm not bashing si but it is simple business. They arnt stupid, i'm sure they are fully aware of the problems this year and
imo it is worse than recent years. The final patches for previous versions tended to solve most of the problems but when we get the next patch in February (come on it wont be before then!)I would be very surprised if they do sort all the issues out this year.
This is the least enjoyable FM for a long time for me, simply because of all the problems I have. The games are just not enjoyable to watch because they are so ridiculous.
I wont be buying FM09 unless it is significantly different with some
proper new and useful features and existing issues, like the transfer system, are revamped.
