Default Tactical Snobbery

Does anyone else suffer from tactical snobbery?

I was going through a bit of a rough run in my game. My Arsenal team were winning, but not as consistently as i wanted. So, i decided to try a few approached reccomended on the tactics board.

To cut a long story short, the new style was very effective. I got unlucky draws against the other top teams i played, while i beat anyone else. So, what's the problem?

Well, you see, my team were now playing ugly football. There was no joy in watching it. I knew where the goal was coming from, and it wasn't going to win any goal of the month awards either. I knew what my defence was do, and lets just say it wasn't "take on the oposition in an attempt to score"...

So, after a few games using a very successfull formation, i decided to go back to my old one. It might not be quite as successful, but at least it's pretty.

I use the official patch if that makes any difference, can't see how it can though :-p

It's jsut an observation that i'd rather have a pretty tactic that's 80% efficient rather than an ugly one which is 95% efficient. I wondered how many other peoople have the same issue with choosing beauty over effectiveness.

Yeah I'm much happier with a patient 442 with lots of short neat passes with through balls that work that I've made myself.

I found with 800 and the Beta's that an all out ugly attack was succesful but dull, much prefer my 801 approach of having to go out and win the game with real football.

aye, my hated tactic was a very direct one. At times i'd counter attack, others i'd leave it off, but the basic idea was fast tempo direct passing. It was very effective, especially with the players i have at my disposal... But it just wasn't the same as watching a 50 pass move. It'd just be grab ball, send it forward, hope for a shot.

yeah well, direct/fast is the way football is played nowdays.

I watched barca today, even they can't afford slow/passing when loosing 0-1...

look at arsenal this year, playing with big guys up front. why?
