So you select a preset 4-4-2 for example, have you changed any of the sliders? or set the individual players to the default CB slider selection for the CB for example?

Just very minor things like setting full back forward rins to mixed and having them cross from deep.
Both my cm set to mixed forward runs.
Most players hae through balls set to often & long shots to rarley.
I found this out too. Used to play a custom made 4-1-3-2 tactic which worked well in FM07 and in pre-patch, but I get 0-0 draws all the time with it.
Upon a new game, choose the 4-1-3-2 default and forgot to change the other settings, and I'm doing great. I am Arsenal though so not sure if this works in LLM.

I do find my second striker scores plenty of rebounds off the keeper after my first striker hits the ball straight at the keeper when he's clean through.

Don't want to burst your bubble but i only use 'default' tactics with very minor changes.
15, 20 (sometimes 30) shots on goal on average but (due to superhuman keepers) only 1-2 goals per game.
