Hi, I was just wondering whether it was do-able on FM 08 to work your way up the league by club hopping, I mean, you do well in a low league, so a higher league club come in for you. Is this do-able? Is it easy to get a better job than your current one. I mean if you were say a BSP side, favourites for the drop, but you kept them up would bigger clubs take any notice. I'm Farsley Celtic on FM 08 and two seasons I've been amongst the favourites for the drop ...
SEASON ONE - Predicted 24th, finished 15th
SEASON TWO - Predicted 22nd, finished 17th
The thing is my reputation is still "unproven", surely it should be "local" by now? It seems the only way to get your rep up is by winning things but the likes of Harry Redknapp made their names by NOT losing things. I feel this is hard to do in FM. Surely my rep should increase for two great survivals. I mean BIGGER BSP clubs ought to be taking notice surely? I'm not throwing my application out yet as I've agreed to stay for another year, it's just surely my rep should increase. Medium BSP clubs should be looking at me ... that sort of thing. I don't feel you can work your way up by club hopping unless you take teams up yourself. When you're at a really poor team surely NOT failing is an achievement in itself and should trigger a club hopping career. For example, the Boston job is currently available, they're predicted 15th, we're predicted 23rd. After two "great escapes" the likes of Boston ought to be attainable. To be fair I don't know whether they'd take me and I'm not willing to risk my job at Farsley in declaring interest but have other people had experiences in which they've been able to work themselves up in this fashion, even if it's only to a better team in your own league? Thanks for reading, I probably went off on one for a bit then!

Job opportunities are only limited by the number of leagues you run and reputation. Run a large number of leagues and do well with a lower league club and you'll get offered jobs higher up the 'food chain'.
You gain rep by winning competition yes but also by beating teams that are 'better' than yours.
Your rep wont go up (quickly) if you languish in a low league regardless of whether you over or under achieve.

I think a lot depends on the football experience you choose when you start the game (at least early on). I picked Part-time player as my background.
I started with Kettering in Blue Square North,
won the league my first season, then took first in the Blue Square Premiere the next season. It's currently mid january in my third season and I am sitting in second place, 2 points back in League 2. I've also kept my salaries within budget every season. So far, I have not gotten any job offers and have not been mentioned as being considered for any jobs.

Funny, I am doing the exact same thing as you right now. Im not gonna lie to you, your rep wont go up anytime soon. Certainly not by surviving relegation. The only way is to get a few promotions than someone will come knocking. Or the best and quickest way is to try and get a small nation on the way and maybe sneaking into a taunament. Thats how I did it last time.
As soon as I got 08 I loaded all the leagues from Spain, England, and Italy. Started unemployed. This is how Ive done so far
1st Season: Took over Lemona from Spain. Predicted midtable finnished midtable
2nd Season: Predicted midtable. Make playoffs and lost. Than quit.
3rd Season: Didnt find a job in off season. Waited a bit. 10 games left in the season I get a job offer from Jaena in Spain third tier. Theyre in 4th when I take over. I finnish 3rd and qualify via playoffs.
4th Season: Stay with Jaena. Predicted to relegate. I survive one position over relegation.
Still my rep is unproven. Although I clearly did well for 4 seasons. I felt that I couldnt take Jaena any further and quit. Soon I noticed Uruguay needed a coach after a dissapointing Copa America. I apply and get the job. So now I am just managing Uruguay. Boring I know. But if I can qualify to the World Cup and do well there. Surely my rep will go up now. Just be patient. And remeber, if you feel you can take a club further, quit before something bad happens and it looks bad on your resume. And try to get small intenationl jobs. It helps.

my bad. Thats supposed to be. If you can't take a club any further, than quit. Just Look for a club with more potential. Like I did with Jaena. They were proffesional and with a big stadium. While Lemona were semi-pro with a small stadium. I still would have been stuck with them in the third tier had I stayed there.

The problem here i think is that although you have done well to avoid relegation two seasons running, your final positions of 15th and 17th have been, with respect, unspectacular. You need a season where you really make an impact and then maybe a couple of slightly bigger teams would sit up and take notice.
Keep plugging away and dont be afraid to declare interest in jobs you would like. Dont do it too often and it shouldnt be a problem. Like the previous post says, if you feel that you have done all you can with a club, its probably better to quit and be unemployed for a while rather than getting relegated and undoing the good work you have done so far.
Good luck!

My club hopping worked a treat.
Started with Workington.
Then Lewes.
Bari.
Catania.
Arezzo.
Queens Park.
Numanica.
Now i'm at Sevilla, 6th in Spanish top division. National manager reputation. Still never spent any money on a player, as I've never had any really!
People who try to take the likes of Workington to the Premiership are a little silly. As soon as a better club came along, you'd snap it up. I got sacked from Arezzo for applying for too many new jobs
