I started unemployed and got a job with Bradford 15 games from the end of the season. They were in 13th place and I won 11 drew one and lost 3 of the remaining games only to lose in the playoff final.
Second season got promoted with Bradford into league one by winning automatic promotion. I got offered the Leeds united job but didnt take it and ended up finishing 9th in League one.
Started the third season with bradford and got 27 points from my first 10 games and so was offered the Plymouth job (bottom of championship). Went mad on a spending spree of just under 8 million pounds loaning 4 players (who scored 46 goals between them) and got promotion via the last playoff place.
Fourth season I finished 12th in the
Prem after some quality young signings from abroad, Britain and former club.
Fifth season Finished 6th in the league winning the league cup and quarter finalists in uefa and F.A cups.
Just about to start my sixth season and just signed a new one year deal to be Plymouth boss next season despite job offers coming in from Pompey, Liverpool, Villareal, Fiorentina (think I may well take the Liverpool job) and my reputation is continental.
So I may not have started with the smallest club in the world but it is definately possible to work your way up the leagues!
