If you simply double click in the work area, the Open Image box pops up.

If you start a new document and you make it transparant, it opens as a normal layer, and not as a background.

... and if you CTRL+ Double Click in the work area, you get the "NEW" dialgo box where you can create a new document..

... and ALT+double click gives you "Open As.."

Those shortcuts actually have worked like that since PS 4 i believe. I've been usin' em for ions, and always wanted to post them on the site... but never got around to creating the right kind of "section" for them to go in.

Oh well... now i don't have to huh?! hahaa [bustagut]
