Default Scratch Disk Question

I added a second hard drive and would like to know how to best set it up for use as a scratch disk.

The default in the Plug-Ins & Scratch Disks dialogue box was:

First: Startup
Second: None
Third: None
Fourth: None

I'm wondering if I should change the first to the new drive or keep it as "startup" and add the new drive to second.

Thanks! : [righton]

Use the second one as your scratch disk.If your startup is too slow then you can put it as your firsts startup disk.

The main usage here is the RAM not harddisk.HD is used as another temp one, in case of ram usage is high.

I would also put the Window page file on the second drive and make it static, meaning that the size doesn't change, which avoids fragmentation of this page file. The general opinion is to make the page file 1.5 times the size of your RAM (see attachment).

Of course, it's better not the put the page file on the same drive as the Photoshop scratch disk, although I've never seen any major negative impact. Of course you're pretty much in a catch-22 when you have two drives and not three.

In this example of my own system the actual Photoshop scratch disk is on S:, which is the third drive (D: is just a logical partition).
