Is there a way to type characters like Webdings or Wingdings in the text box when using PS.

You could use Windows' character map; start/programs/accessories/system tools/charactermap. You can make a shortcut for it on your desktop and what you have to fill in for location is CWINDOWS\system32\charmap.exe

In charactermap you can select the charcters you need and then click on copy and paste them in Photoshop with Ctrl+V (text tool has to be active).

I am using a Mac so that won't work for me I'm afraid but thanks anyhow Gaussian.

I'm not surprised if the Mac turns out to have a similar program, just use that one instead.
