Default COLORING QUESTION

Hello everyone..I am brand new to this forum..glad this place exists!! I'll probably have 1 million posts here pretty soon ..lol..
o.k.
I apologize in advance for my elementary questions, I have played with PHotoshop for sometime now and done lots of simple b.s, like signatures...but my knowledge is honestly very elementary, there are alot of basics I'm am sure I don't know..

1st. I have a image that has writing across the middle of it..I am simply trying to take this writing and make it glow or actually chrome it or brighten it up some to stand out from the logo..
its not letting me use the "filter" options.. I can't fill it or anything..any advice would be greatly appreicated
this is the logo below..Homemanagement group is what I am trying to liven up alittle

To apply any effects, you're probably going to want to have each element on it's own separate layer. So the "HMG" and the "Home Management Group" should each be on a separate layer surrounded by transparency (no solid colors or anything ON the layer with it). Then you should be able to apply some filters and such to it.

As far as concepts go... have you tried reversing the colors? Use a lighter or "ghosted" color for the HMG and a dark or black color for the actual text? Just a thought.

See where that gets you.

Welcome to PSG.

If you want to use filters, then the text has to be rasterized and Photoshop will do that for you when click on "yes" when it says "Rasterize the type?". Also make sure you work in image/mode/RGB to have all filters available.

^Usually thats true, but as TSpoon said, it needs to be on a seperate layer in order to apply effects.

I know, but I didn't see the need to repeat what Mindbender already said.

If the text has not been rasterized, then it will be on separate layers by default... You can't merge text layers without rasterizing them.

If they are not rasterized, you can still apply Layer Styles to them, including Inner Glow, Outer Glow, or a Gradient Overlay, which would allow for a chrome effect gradient (or other metallic effect) to be applied while still remaining Vector...
