Hey everyone!
I am working on a art project where the main theme is human anatomy, and I am using Adobe Photoshop and Imageready to help me. I have made a animated gif, but am having trouble fading the layers into each other. Here is the picture:

Unfortunatly I was unable to upload it to imageshack or similiar due to its large size.

Could someone please help me, and if there are other general comments please feel free to comment smile

To have a cross fade you need to add extra frames between two images.
You then use the layer's opacity to cross fade by using this method (example):

frame 15 image1-opacity 90% image 2-opaicty 10%
frame 16 image1-opacity 70% image 2-opaicty 30%
frame 17 image1-opacity 50% image 2-opaicty 50%
frame 18 image1-opacity 30% image 2-opaicty 70%
frame 19 image1-opacity 10% image 2-opaicty 90%

However because of the large size of your images you probably won't see a smooth fade under any circumstances, simply because the GIF format was never intended to animate huge images like this.

Oh OK. I understand how you do that, but I have been sitting for hours trying without success.
It wont let me change the opacity of the whole picture, only different layers. So I am not able to change the opacity of the whole picture at the same time. When I try doing layer by layer it does not work properly.

Could I possibly upload the .psd file to rapidshare and maybe you could help me accomplish this? There are no words that would describe my happiness if you could do this for me

Check the attached PSD file to understand what I said earlier. One note: to make the animation smoother, use smaller opacity steps.

You can usually only change each layer or select all the layers and change the opacity. You will have to make the background layer a regular layer to change its opacity.

Ok. How do I make the backgroud layer a regular layer? Because it is locked at the moment. Will I be able to change the opacity for the whole image then?

Only if your background layer needs to be animated, you have to unlock it. You can unlock the background layer by double clicking on it and clicking OK. Have you checked my example and the PSD file? All the information you need is in there. Personally I don't understand why the problem is that you're still having right now. \:/
