Default opening file gone crazy

i feel simple. simply put. my photo shop now opens files "squared" and rotating produces an " elongated rectangle" image. esentially stretching or bunching the image to fit. all these descriptions i am employing aught to provide a clue to the fix, but i cannot find it for tryinging. so could someone simply tell me what to do? thankyou.c.

The pixel aspect ratio might be wrong; look carefully at the file open dialog box.

Welcome badclowns 8))

I wish I could help you, but to be honest; the description of your problem confuses me. Can you post a few screenshots? Thanks.

when i open an image, it is presented as a squared image, all sides of the bunding box equal, and the image is squeezed to fit the shape. when i rotate this image, a tall recangle box appears and the turned image is now stretched to fit. i do not know how to take a screen shot. thankyou for your interest, c.

badclowns, please don't open a new thread each time for the same problem. All your 3 threads are now merged into this one.

Thank you.

As for your images; there are no problems with your files. The image might look stretched, but that's an optical illusion. Both images have the same ratio, only the size is different and their angle.

To me it seems that you don't use a landscape resolution, but a portrait resolution instead (height higher than width), in the same way you have your monitor in a portrait position (I can do that for example with mine). If that's the case, then Photoshop just tries to fit the image inside the document window (I'm assuming now that these are cropped screenshots). Again, I'm only guessing here, since you still haven't provided enough details.

dear gausian, thank you for the assist. these are not cropped images. i used a digital camera to record a painting, loaded it onto my computer and opened it in photoshop. the image appeared sideways and i rotated it. the new view is now stretched and elongated, so i looked back and noticed it was squat in the first view.i did not have this problem before. and it is true that when i print both , they are equal[just tried it] but i want to see it "correctly" on on my monitor. how do i take a "screen shot" for you to look at? c. what you see in the above images is the "saved as " from photoshop after i rotated it. that is all i did other than making them tiny so i could post them[ wich took me ten tries[pulling my hair out] pmho.
