for some reason when i try to use an action i get the "don't" symbol. ( the one with the circle and a diagonal line ) how can i fix this? thanks, boyd.

Hi! what action are you trying to play?
Is it an action made for a 8bits/channel, and RGB document, or a pixel layer?
Are you trying to apply that action on a text/vector layer/adjustment layer/ on a high bits CYMK document?

thanks for replying. it's an action to simulate infra-red film. i have no idea of the technical aspects of the action. the problem, however, occurs with all actions, including the built-in actions. thanks, boyd.

did you check the playing options of the actions palette? (the left facing arrow)
Is it the cursor that changes to a forbidden sign?
Did you try on an new 8bits image in RGB mode?

Have you tried to delete the preferences of Photoshop?

OMG, I'm new to this forum (just logged in in for the very first time) and boy am I happy to see this thread!!!??? Believe it or not I'm having the very same problem!!!! None of my actions work :{ They do work if I switch to Button Mode though. Any help will be deeply appreciated

sPECtre, I hadn't seen your question. They are in my photoshop CS2 and 7.0 folders.

It is very strange that they work in button mode.
Have you saved actions sets you created using the drop down menu?
Then you can delete the preferences of Photoshop : hold CTRL+ALT+SHIFT as soon as Photoshop loads.
