PSCS is ram hog Mateo. It runs optimum with 4Gigs total ram, and prefers it's own scratch disk. Better consider an upgrade already, 'cause CS3 ain't too far away. By CS4 or 5 we'll probably need a dedicated PS machine. [bustagut] A lot of people say 1 or 2 gigs are enough. That depends on what you are using PS for. I run fine on 2 gigs. No problems at on my G5.

Many thanks for the response Ronmatt, but Im sure something is wrong.. can you explain the scratch disk thing, for a loghead like me. I mean, really , really slow, i dont get the marching ants on selections, i get coffee in between simple edits..
thanks~~

Are other programs slow too or only Photoshop? Did you try resetting the preference file? What kind of processor do you use? How much RAM do you have? How much ram is still available if you have a file that's slow or is it even slow with small files? What kind of new computer is it; factory model or one you built yourself? What kind of graphics card? How large is your scratch disk and where is it located?

I probably could ask a lot more, but this is it for now. Please try to provide as much info as possible, because just saying that CS is slow is quite often not enough to solve these kind of problems.?

Thanks to google, I got the following links when typing photoshop preferences:
http://www.quepublishing.com/article...?p=174335&rl=1

http://www.informit.com/guides/conte...seqNum=16&rl=1

http://www.samspublishing.com/articl...&seqNum=2&rl=1

In the meantime: it is useless to change the location of the scratch disk if you have only one disk that is partitionned, change it if you have several hard disks.

Look for updates for Photoshop CS on the adobe website, there is an adjusted refresh plug-in that might help your feelings of slowness.

But indeed, more info about your problem: is it when you apply filters, when you open a file, etc.

Also, did you get the 9.01 update? When I first installed pscs2 on my pc it ran very sluggish, etc. I tweaked it some and installed the update... that helped a lot.
