This problem started just after you updated DirectX and your Nvidia driver? If that's the case then it seems to me quite obvious what the problem is.?

Uninstalling the Nvidia driver however won't really help, since all these video card drivers do a lousy job uninstalling them. To uninstall them the proper way use
DriverCleaner after you uninstalled the driver.

After you removed all leftovers, install your previous Nvidia driver.
The problem could also be directX related. However uninstalling DirectX is not an easy and straightforward task. You might try a program called
DirectX Happy http://www.superfoxs.com/
