Default Anyone Using Adobe's Bridge?

G-man made an interesting point on another thread:
Quote:
I don?t need Adobe?s Forums to understand that Bridge is the most bloated resource hog I?ve used in long time. Not only takes it a long time to load, it?s also 60MB and has a slow interface.
[saywhat]

I couldn't agree with him more.
I never use Bridge for those very reasons, now I'm wondering, does anyone in Guruland use Bridge, and if so, how does it help you? Or did Adobe fire a dud ? [confused]

Yes - no problems; I find it quite handy.
The only time I had a problem was when I opened a folder with some 200 images - Bridge was a bit sluggish then - so I split the folder.
It's especially useful if you have a folder full of jpgs - you can see the images - and delete them etc.

Bridge v1.0.4: 60MB, 15 sec first start, 4 sec second start.

Interface speed (thumbnails already cached):

AcdSee v3.1: 8MB, 2 sec first start, < 0.5 second start.

Interface speed (thumbnails already cached):

I don't know, but maybe my idea about speed is different.??

I don't even compare the time it takes in Bridge to create thumbnails compared to AcdSee, it would be one big? session...

A test folder contains 155 photographs, 2048x1537pixels.

Time to create thumbnails,

Bridge 205 sec
AcdSee 35 sec

I've been using ACDsee forever and the lst two versions of Bridge just reinforced my affection for ACDsee. I base my liking on speed and ease of organizing, reviewing and reorganizing files. I'll often have 1,000 plus images in a folder and in the time it takes for Bridge to load them I can open ACDsee, browse for my image and send it to PS or whatever and get started. Plus I like being able to double click an image and have a full screen preview instantly.

I don't like it. Adobe, with all their bells and whistles, seems to have absolutely no regard for workflow. They're creating memory hogs which bottom lines to inefficiency. 2 G of ram to run pscs effectively is bizzaar. By the time the 'BRIDGE' actually loads and performs, I've already found what I was looking for manually. Plus, I can't get my head around the re-training of my workflow procedures. Bridge aside, Adobe could learn a thing or two about application interfacing from ZBrush. That's the sweatest set-up I've seen. Almost 100% customizable. [My 2.5 cents]

Are you all running version 1.04 of Bridge?
Did you let it create thumbnails for all your images?
