Default Monitor and Printer calibration???

I have had three computers using Photoshop (both PC and Mac) using both Epson and HP printers. The color calibration was not perfect on any of those setups but close enough were only minor tweaks were needed between the monitor and printer output. My new Mac G5 and Epson R1800 however is WAY off. The colors on my images are coming out extremely saturated. I am in RGB mode. Does anyone have any ideas why this should be so far off and, if so, what I can do to correct it without going to a complete calibration procedure.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Yeah... in your EULA it clearly states that when you buy a new G5, you have to also buy one for MindBender as well. If you don't it causes all sorts of colors issues....

Hard to say without knowing what exact steps you've already done. Are you sing a CRT or an LCD monitor? Have you run any calibrations? If so were they hardware or visual? It could be that you just didn't get the calibration right and need to redo it... it could be that you're not sending the document with the correct profile. When you go to print, in your Epson settings go to advanced and change your color correction to "no color adjustment" to force it to use only the profile that's being sent and not perform any further adjustments on it's own. Don't know the specifics of the R1800, so I can't speak as to any quirks that might be needed for that particular printer. If you're using an external RIP, that would affect things also...you would need to take into account that the RIP is going to do profile processing and might require a different color profile setup.

I would make a custom proofing profile for that particular printer and make sure you're printing from a standard color profile like Adobe RGB 1998 or sRGB to see what's going on. You should be working in a standard color space anyway... but if you aren't, switch to test.

Could also be some kind of setting on the printer itself... generally new printers are mostly software controled, but you can sometimes override them at the hardware itself.

Like I said, hard to say without knowing what you've already done and without seeing what's happening.

Hope that points you in the right direction... otherwise, give some more info about what you've already tried and what you've already done as far as configuration.

p.s. I wouldn't overlook maybe just checking Epson's site and seeing if there is a new driver release or something for the printer... never know.
