Default Photoshop Toolbox Won't Work

 For the past several months I've been unable to get all the tools in the Toolbox to function properly. It sometimes helps if I resart my computer over & over & delete the files but it only lasts temporarily. I've called Photoshop & they've never heard of it. I've uninstalled & reinstalled several times as well & it never seems to work.

Any suggestions???

Some of the tools that won't work are the Clone Stamp tool, the Healing/Patch tool, the Dodge/Burn/Sponge tool & the Blur, Sharpen, Smudge tool. I was advised to delete the Presets folder in photoshop & that helped for a while but soon all the tools above quit working again.

Thanks, Skyy

Sky please don't be impatient. A lot of folks either haven't the immediate time to get to the forum or they can't help. And it wouldn't be of any use for everyone who reads the thread to post a reply just to say they can't offer any help for the problem.

You've been here awhile, i'm sure you know exactly how things work here.

I've never seen/heard of this problem either and so don't really have much to offer other then deleting the Prefs 'file' (not 'folder' as you stated), or... double checking to make sure you're always in RGB mode when trying to use those tools. Keep in mind that only a select few IMAGE Modes allow full use of all tools in the Toolbar. Other modes only have a limited toolbar to work with.

Next time this happens, open the IMAGE menu and choose MODE>RGB. Or make sure that RGB is currently selected.

If being in RGB mode is NOT the problem, then i highly suggest you go back to Adobe and demand they help you. After all, that's what we're paying for right? The company to support their product. And if it's not working as it should, then it's on them to help you figure out why, and provide alternatives for you if they cannot help you.

are you using PSCS2 and if you are, on what drive? PSCS2, in order to run effeciently on a PC, should have no less than a gig of RAM, preferably 2 gigs. It doesn't like to 'share' disk space either. Many may argue these points, but bottom line is. PSCS2 is a memory hog, period. If you don't accomadate the app, it gets moody and does nasty little things like making things not function properly and making things disappear. Adobe won't tell you this. Bad press. I had nothing but problems with it until I bought it it's own computer.

The problem that the original poster experienced is sometimes caused by having the stylus and the mouse on the same time on the graphic tablet.

If Photoshop behaves oddly, re-creating its preferences files can help: hold CTRL+ALT+Shift as soon as you start Photoshop, an d click yes on the message that should appear.

Some program might be interfering with Photoshop. New spyware killers can cause that. Or shutting down your computer with Photoshop still running...

I used to get this sort of thing every now and again with OS9 and earlier - Photoshop 6, then 7.
Deleting preferences cured it.
haven't had the problem in OSX - yet.
