Now you are in IR you should have the Animation Window open and it should look like this

Can you see at the bottom of the pallett towardthe middle is a highlighted icon? click that to make another copy of the frame. Now go to the layers pallett in IR and make visible the top layer by clicking the eye icon again in the pallett window. Your Animation Pallett should now look like this

Next thing to do is the timing of the frames. This is important to get right for the effect to look OK. In the Animation Pallett can you see where the tiny arrow is denoting how many seconds or fractions of a second the frame will be on view.

These are the settings I used. Set the play to forever and test. Go to File>Preview In> then choose the browser you want to use, or you can just click on the Icon in the toolbar (I use FireFox)
You should now be seeing this

If this looks OK just right click on it and Save As.
If you want to tweak further and lets face it we all do close the browser and play with the time settings.

As this was a quick down and dirty explanation of the animation there are bound to be bits I may have ommitted. I'm off to throw Zeds at the stars now. I hope it works for you, the fiddly bit is covering the eyes and slightly smudging. Keep trying and I'll catch you on the bright side
Of course this is not the only way. I don't often use ther smudge tool it tends to distort too much. Clone Stamp may be worth trying too.

Excellent robby, well done. I had played around with photoshop for a couple of years before I ever ventured into Image Ready.

g'day Tao .. excellent explanation of how to 'blink' images ... I muddled my way around 'blinking' images a while back (could have done with your help to shorten my learning curve .. lol ..) ... come to think of it I muddle my way around IR and pshop all the time ... lol ...
robby .. well done .. full marks for perserverance ... got your toes wet eh? ... gonna do some more? ('tis soooo adictive!! .. lol ..) .. btw when 'blinking' ladies give them a tad of eye shadow on the eye lids when they're wearing makeup (even though the 'blink' is only 0.1 or 0.2 of a second it does please the viewers eye .. and adds to the reality ... ) ... again well done :} :} :}
... have posted one of 'my' ladies below ... (the mods are done in ps7 and IR .. image is 250x320 .. 55k ... 4 frames .. 'blink' frames are 0.2 .. one open eye frame is 3 secs the other is 2 secs ... I kept the 256 colours ... )
