Default Need help with a resizing action

First post here- thanks.? I have shot several hundred jpegs for the local highschool football team- just for fun.? It was a great experience to be down on the sidelines with a great group of kids.? I printed shots for the team and parents- gratis.? The coach wants a disk with all the images to look at, I have no problem with that.? My problem is the jpegs are large- up to 10Meg, I need to get them smaller- in the 6x4" 80dpi range so they can run through them.? I made a duplicate copy of all the images in a separate folder and am trying to write an action so I can batch them to a smaller size- there are over 900 of them.? I have tried recording a simple action using image size to resize the image, then close.? When I run the action close is not automated, I have to OK the jpeg compression for each image.? These has to be an easy way to do this, but I can't find it.? Any ideas??
I did try the save for web command, but I get an error message that the files are larger than web save is set to handle so I gave up on that approach as well.
Thanks again
Gary

Hi Gary...

Gary once you size the photos down to that size and resolution, using "Save for Web" becomes feasible. PS shouldn't give you any grief about that then. I'd suggest though that you stick to standards for resolution and go with 96 for PC 72 for Mac. Depending on which one the coach has. It's not crucial, but it doesn't hurt to do either.

So record your action, using a 'dummy' photo, and use the SFW function.
In your action, just change the DPI then the inch size. And also select the "Bicubic Sharpen" option too.
Then run SFW and choose Jpg/Medium Compression. Save this dummy file into the same folder where you want to save these resized photos.
By doing this while recording the action, you'll make all the paths clean and leave no room for error by PS.

Within the Batch command window, choose your Source folder, then your Desination folder. And choose the "Override Action 'Save As' commands". This is a little redundant because you did that precursor step by saving your dummy photo to the actual desination folder. But it won't hurt to have on anyway.

Now run the Action on your folder and it should run straight through without bugging you for further input.

Any problems give a holler. %/
