Default Image Copyright & Other Such Things...

PLEASE READ:

Ok it would appear that you folks have thought this copyright issue out fairly well, and discussed your own views/opinions about the it here. That's good to see.

My views are very much along the same lines as the rest of you, so i'm not going to go into them in any detail now.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The one thing that i'm not 100% sure about is, whether i personally need to over-moderate (or police) the people who visit and use these forums.
I think that, for the most part, you folks are all old & schooled enough to know when you may or maynot be doing something that is questionable in nature -- such as reposting images that were not created by you, and are not authorized to be reused by anyone but the original creator.

So as for that issue, i will most likely NOT be following every member of these forums around watching their every action. I WILL though keep an eye out for extreme &/or highly unusual situations -- whereby, i WILL take whatever actions are deemed neccessary at the time. But i don't think this will have to be something i should be too concerned about. We have a great community of decent people here. And i trust every one of them to "do the right thing".
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Do i really NEED to post this type of thing as a "guideline" or "set of rules" to be obeyed when using the boards?! I don't know... you guys tell me?!
Personally?... i don't feel it's neccessary. But, for the sake of all who belong to this great graphics community, i'll go with the majority vote on this one.

Just post your vote/decision about it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for reading this folks.

I voted yes for the following reason:
People that knowingly do such things will never change while those that unknowingly do it need to learn the rules somewhere. This is a place for all to come and share and learn together so why not include the concept of intellectual property rights. Remember, the concept is not universal in the real world. I hear they are selling copies of Photoshop in China for about $3. Just my two cents, now if I post another 149 times I won't have enough for new version.[honesty]

I vote yes. I think that a set of groundrules gives the place a basic foundation that everyone can reference. Also I think it helps others that might be concerned about a post, know where you stand on things. That way they can just ref part of your post when a situation comes up and it's no bad on them.

Ok, very good stuff there fellas, thx.

Even though the poll shows a strong lean toward folks believing they can 'police' themselves, i'll get started on writing this up.

Greg actually brought up a good point that i hadn't fully considered... how new users would view MY standpoint on this, and other 'public' issues. And if having a written page stating a few ground rules will make folks feel more at ease about posting things to any of the boards, then that's not a big deal for me to do for them -- and myself.

Thanks to everyone that took part in this. It's helped.

Look for this page to be posted soon. And the link to it put either at the top with the other blue buttons, or as a text link at the bottom of every page.

The link will be titled: "Forum Guidelines", or maybe "Groundrules". Not sure yet.

I repeat myself at the risk of being crude: why use images created by others? Start from scratch and make something yourself.
They are giving Poser3 for free with Digit Magazine and with ComputerArts.
OK, you still have to buy the mag.
And on the PS6 CDROM you find images enough to play with if you have no scanner...ahhh a new tip. Over to the cutie forum...

Default Image Copyright & Other Such Things...

Mark
While we are on the subject of copywrites and rules of order for the board, I need to ask a question that has been on my mind.
Lateley some of us have been using models created in Poser for practice in making clothes and puting people into PS settings. I think that this is fun, creative and an overall learning expeireince.
My question arises because for the most part we start with nude models. I know they are comp generated and not real people, however, the Poser sites and Galleries that I have visited always give a warning to the areas where there is nudity, whether it is comp generated or photo generated.
I am wondering, because we do have some younger people on the board if we should do the same thing?
Please let me (us) know what policy you would like to see regarding nudity in our creations.
I for one believe that art is art, but I am not sure of others opinions.
This is just a thought and maybe should be mentioned in your upcoming guidelines.

Rick's thought for the day

Hey i have nothing against "art for art sakes"... but i'll always believe that nudity is nudity... doesn't matter what "form" it takes, it can still have the same impact whether comp generated or real. So in this issue, safer is better i think.

My view on this kind of thing is YES, please post a "Cautionary Warning" to viewers that a thread contains nudity. It doesn't have to be real complicated either... a simple "Contains Nudity" will suffice.

Thanks for bring that up.
That will also be included in the "Forum Guidelines".

I fully respect your decision, Mark, but, permit me to say that personally I find that there is a difference between a copyright and a morality question. Perhaps over here we're less puritan. Probably that's why we don't have a pornography industry like the one of the country that finds ugly meanings in natural shapes...and that infects the world with the most vile language in their movies, language that when it is written must be changed into f..k and "darned" etc.
Respect eachothers' feelings ok, but I don't give a thing for puritans and hypocrits. On the other hand: I visit Renderosity regularly, but mostly for some great artists who post there, and most of the crap and publicity I simply ignore.
And I do not intend to show any nudity or violence or whatever here.
But don't forget that there may also be visitors who object against every representation of the living form (like Muslims), visitors whose religion forbids them to look at anything surreal or extra-terrestrian or having a subject from another that Christian Mythology, etc etc etc.
Give them one finger, and they take over your entire body. And the rest.

I have said, but I 100% back up your decision.

Well thanks Erik, for all that.

I don't neccessarily disagree with your viewpoints and that stuff... but in all actuallity, my 'personal' views, and yours, and anyone else's... carry very little, if no weight in a matter such as this, in which the "general public" at large are involved. At least, not to my mind.

I am specifically requesting we "all" try to do this as merely a "show of good faith" to help cover/protect all groups of different peoples that may visit this community, or at least TRY to anyway. This is not a philisophical question/debate in any way on this subject matter. It's just something i would feel better about for all concerned.
Especially also because i, above anyone else, KNOW what the general ages are of my visitors. I wouldn't expect anyone else to know or be able to act on this information, but that's not an issue here anyway.

So... thanks for the views on this, and it's good to see where you really stand. And i think you can probably look just to the side a bit, and see me standing fairly close to you on this too.
