Default Hello from the UK (with a small text question lol )

Hello PSG Community, another newbie joined up so get ready for some more unchallenging questions
Well basically my wife bought me Photoshop CS2 as a present a few months ago and i love changing and playing with photos of my family. I've been kinda self teaching myself via tutorials but sometimes i never get to the end as i stuggle understanding the cs lingo. Yet theres a few i've done with exact results

Ive managed to do the colour photo to pencil sketch, and applying a layer mask to blend in another photo using the gradient tool, hey not bad is it for a beginner, only 4 months to learn lol! But something so simple looks awesome.

Its great fun tho having family or friends comment on the thank you letters we sendout, but my best moment was my wife telling me how impressed the other mums in the playground were with Thank-You notes i done for my sons 5th birthday in September. It was a photo of him with his cake, but i cut out his face and changed the background with a filter to make it look like a coloured sketch, turned his face back on and added some text. Very simple for you, took me all day lol but worth it in the end. I really do want to learn this software and get myself to a basic level of understanding, i love reading the tutorials, i wish i could complete one lol but i keep trying.

Ive also tried adding my boys faces to the main logo of the film Incredibles, but they always look like they have that cut out and paste effect, so i might be asking you some advice on that.

Anyway as you all seem pretty friendly, i havent yet read a answer to anyones questions that has had any hint of sarcasim or dis-respect, so thats why i have taken the plunge to ask.

This might be a bit long winded to explain so ive done a picture to try and get my question over

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...cameratest.jpg

When i add text i can only align it to the left right of center, i want to be able to follow the outline of an object in one paragraph, is this something that can be done? The Camera is pretty crude effort but im not the best at explaining what i mean.

Hope its okay to ask and many thanks for a great forum
Steve

Hi conjoskaz,
Have you tried the text tutorials on this list:
http://photoshopgurus.com/tutorials_intermediate.html

I think that may help, if not shout back, and I'm sure you will get loads of help.

Hi TaoBoogie, no i hadnt, although i solved this problem with the help of google. Mind you im going thru the tutorials on that link, some excellent work on there!

I solved my problem by making a path with the pen tool around the edge of the item, then got the text to follow the patch, aligned it to the obstructive edge and volia, its the result i wanted. Now i want fancy text so its back to that link

Thanks Very Much CJK

Hey Hey conjoskaz! Welcome to the forums! It sounds that you are an inspired 'beginner'. [righton]

You've already discovered the answer to the question which brought you here, yesterday. If you Google 'text on a path Photoshop' you'll find a number of varieties of tutorials and discussions of that along with it's companion, 'text in a shape Photoshop'. Among the less obvious things are reversing the text and so forth.

Do feel free to ask any Photoshop/Graphics question which you might have. We'll try to help.

TaoBoogie...that's an excellent new avatar! :} :} :}

Thanks Welles, firstly for the welcome secondly for the advice. I think thats the problem is the terminology, i didnt know what a 'path' was in photoshop terms of course lol. Problem was i done it via parrot fashion then when i attempted in the next morning my text was going around the edge of the shape inside of hugging the shapes side! So thats another trick up my sleeve.

Thanks again
Conjoskaz

Thats part of the beauty, for me, in PS, conjoskaz. If you dig a little you find all manner of wonderful tools for the imagination to utilise. I've been playing with PS for about three years now and still feel like I have only scratched the surface of possibilities.
Thanks Welles, I've been splashing about in ImageReady recently too.
