Again I am new and so so sorry if this is in the wrong place!!

I spent 7 hours playing with PS7 and I know the little things but some one did a picture over and I love what they did!..

She said she used the same program as I have ps7 but I have no idea how she did it??? Could some please help me a little??? Thanks so much Diana

Hi dianahottie and welcome to the forums. Although what Raphael's work isn't terribly complicated, it may be a bit much for someone relatively new to Photoshop. Learning PS can take years, or even a lifetime with the constant upgrades.

Rafael's makeover started with turning the B&W photo to sepiatone. That could have been done with the Hue/Saturation dialog (Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation...) or the Channel Mixer. Hue/Saturation is a bit simpler so once there check Colorize to make it monotone and adjust the hue, saturation, and lightness sliders to taste. For a discussion...

Next the lips were selected and colorized, as well as the blush on the cheek. That could have been done with brushes and the blend mode set to color. Most likely it was done on a separate layers for ease of editing. For those two you would have to learn a bit about selections, using brushes, blend modes and transparency for the cheek effect.

Once that was done all the rest were bits and pieces of other images added to the original to hide the original clothing and embellish the image. It's hard to say whether Raphael had a collection of masked feather images of whether the feathers around the outside edge and eye-mask were painted. The term mask may be confusing here. In Photoshop, masking means making part of the image transparent while leaving the rest visible.

So the beads, bustier, decorative mask and feathers were added on separate layers, no doubt, for ease of alignment, colorizing and editing. Perhaps lighting adjustments were made to make all the pieces of the composite look right but it doesn't look like it. Once they were in place it was a simple issue to colorize the feathers and bows.

I'd suggest you Google 'colorizing photographs Photoshop' to discover a zillion tutorials on the subject.

Another search vital to learning how to create something like this would be making selections... Here's a good start, in fact all of Jay's tutorials from this page are about Photoshop 7 and might prove very valuable.
